Your role and responsibilities

As a user experience design intern for IBM Quantum, you will work at the intersection of science, design, and culture to create experiences for one of the the most innovative technology initiatives at IBM. You will help define and evolve the user experience of IBM Quantum across digital products and experiences. You will partner with team members across disciplines, including those with highly technical backgrounds, in order to deliver products that will help advance the entire quantum computing technology stack and contribute toward making quantum more broadly usable and accessible.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Strong experience designing user flows, mockups, and interfaces following a user-centered approach

  • Experience partnering with design, product, and development stakeholders to translate operational and functional constraints, user research, and user needs into valuable UI enhancements.

  • Strong visual design skills, including composition, typography, illustration, and designing for responsive screens.

  • Ability to clearly communicate design decisions, intentions, and technical details to advocate for user needs and aid in development execution

  • Strong experience with Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop to create mockups, and deliver high-fidelity designs.

  • Experience reviewing mockups with end users and stakeholders to validate design direction and feasibility.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Experience leveraging AI tools for generating prototypes and designs, and improving overall design workflow

  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to work with tight deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Familiarity working with or contributing to design systems, particularly the Carbon and/or IBM Design languages.

  • Experience creating digital illustrations and/or animations

  • Experience working on highly complex or technical digital platforms or tools, especially ones with a user base of researchers and/or developers.
