Occupational Medicine Physician

Site of Service: US Army Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC, Department of Public Health, Occupational Health Clinic.

Hours: Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., excluding federal holidays. Typical shift is 0700-1530 with a 30-minute lunch period, or 0700-1600 with a 60-minute lunch period. The shift shall not exceed 40 hours per week. Overage hours, on-call hours, and telework are not applicable.

Position Overview

The Occupational Medicine Physician supports the Department of Public Health at Womack Army Medical Center serving military and civilian employees in an occupational health clinic environment. This mission-focused role includes clinical evaluations, fitness-for-duty determinations, and preventive occupational medicine services for a large, highly diversified population working around a broad range of potential hazards.

Position Qualifications / Requirements

Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.

Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as an Occupational Medicine Physician in the state of North Carolina.

Certification(s):

  • Basic Life Support

  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Certification

  • American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) - Occupational Medicine Specialty.

Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as an Occupational Medicine Physician.

Citizenship/English Language/Physical Capability : U.S. citizenship is required for this position. All contractor personnel must demonstrate professional proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and government personnel. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods; lift and move patients or equipment as required by the clinical setting; and perform the physical demands inherent to the specialty.

Duties

  • Conducts a full range of Occupational Medicine Physician duties for a large, highly diversified population working with a large range of potential hazards.

  • Develops and maintains familiarity with occupational hazards through regular visits to work sites and review of Industrial Hygiene reports and information.

  • Conducts job-related clinical examinations of military and civilian employees, in person and virtually, including pre-employment, qualification exams, periodic exams related to hazard exposure, fitness for duty, disability retirement, and health clearances before returning to work after certain illnesses and injuries.

  • Advises the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center regarding qualifications or disposition of applicants and employees.

  • Acts as technical advisor to occupational nursing staff who may conduct off-site visits.

  • Participates in Occupational Health Clinic functions including hearing conservation, occupational vision, immunization, pregnancy surveillance, and chronic disease surveillance programs.

  • Provides treatment of illness and injury within the scope of the Occupational Health Clinic mission.

  • Completes required records, reports, quality assurance reviews, and EHR documentation pertaining to Occupational Health Clinic care.

  • Performs Department of Transportation CDL physicals.

  • Completes immunization reviews and lab orders related to immunizations and/or appointments.

Special Requirements / Skills

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

Base Down Days

The MTF observes installation training holidays and base down days. The contractor shall not be required to work on these days and will not receive additional compensation.
