Position Overview

This Service Technician position is part of the Customer Engineering team that supports Proterra customers during all phases of development, testing, and product launch. This is an exciting team of diverse and dynamic electric vehicle experts located in strategic locations throughout the country, playing a key role in ensuring success both for our organization and for customers. This position is for a service technician that provides hands-on support for our OEM customers when they install our products in their vehicles, as a first line of support for installation, issue resolution, and interfaces.

About the Role – You will:

  • Work closely with application and service engineering during the development and production phases

  • Support customers with the following aspects – mechanical aspects including mounting and physical interfaces, electrical aspects both HV and LV, and controls interfaces including messages and diagnostics that pass between Proterra components and an OEM.

  • First line of support for hands-on troubleshooting and diagnosis of electrical, controls, and software issues with customers.

  • Work closely with customers to diagnosis electrical issues, which could include wiring, pinouts, damages/chafes that could impact the functional

  • Collect CAN traces via CANalyzer and other CAN capture tools for further diagnosis, troubleshooting, and root cause. Additionally, you will be able to collect information using electrical measurement tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, megohmmeters, and milliohmeters.

  • Work closely with Proterra and customer engineers to make repairs and fixes as needed, also handling repairs autonomously as needs arise.

  • Build relationships with technical contacts with customers and 3 rd party partners, creating trust and strong collaboration.

  • Continuously evaluate Proterra processes for improvement and refinement, and propose creative methods to improve efficiency, robustness, and quality.

  • Provide training support to our customers about diagnostics and safe handling of our product About You:

  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt interpersonal styles and techniques to influence all levels of organizations with clear communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility, and act with complete integrity as a remote and customer-facing technician.

  • Adaptable and able to work in an ambiguous environment both technically and organizationally and create clarity out of those situations. Your Experience Includes:

  • 2+ years’ experience in the electric vehicle industry

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Commercial bus, heavy truck, or automotive vehicle systems development or integration experience required

  • Good driving record demonstrates ability to safely operate a company/customer vehicle.

  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting, mechanical troubleshooting, hands-on training, and mentoring.

  • Use of electrical measurement devices (digital multimeter, megohmmeter, milliohmmeter)

  • Relevant EV certifications preferred

  • Ability to work in manufacturing and development environment You Might Also Have:
