Full job description
DLTL & Truckload Specialist | Cargomatic
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site | Experienced
Compensation: $60,000 - $75,000 depending on experience, skills, and location.
About the role Cargomatic moves freight across full truckload, over-the-road, local, and LTL, and the largest share of it moves through our marketplace and dedicated shorthaul book. This role is the hands-on engine behind that movement. You will spend your day sourcing carriers, working the load boards, negotiating rates, and covering freight before it turns into a fire drill. You will price FTL and LTL opportunities as they come up and turn quotes around fast for sales. This is a build-and-cover seat for an operator who likes being in the market every day, can read a lane, and takes pride in keeping capacity locked and margin intact. You will report to the Director of LTL (Marketplace) & Truckload. What you will own
-
Carrier sourcing and development. Recruit and onboard FTL and OTR carriers, build repeatable relationships on the lanes that matter, and grow contracted capacity so we lean on the spot market by choice rather than necessity.
-
Marketplace and capacity coverage. Live on DAT and the load boards, source competitive carrier pricing, negotiate daily market rates, and cover difficult freight efficiently. Get ahead of demand instead of chasing it, and pull spot spend down in the process.
-
Pricing and quote support. Price FTL and LTL opportunities using lane history, market conditions, fuel, and accessorials. Get quotes back to sales quickly and secure capacity before a shipment goes critical.
-
Margin and lane discipline. Watch your lanes for margin erosion, flag the underperformers, and bring repricing and carrier-utilization ideas to the Director. Protect the number on every load you touch.
-
Compliance and network hygiene. Keep carriers current on insurance, operating authority, safety ratings, and customer requirements, and run onboarding steps (W-9, FMCSA and safety review, system setup) cleanly.
-
Cross-functional execution. Work with sales, dispatch, and customer service so booking moves through delivery as one flow, and resolve exceptions before they reach the customer. What you bring Required:
-
2+ years in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or transportation operations, with hands-on carrier sourcing and rate negotiation.
-
Working command of load boards (DAT, Truckstop, or equivalent) and a TMS.
-
Comfort pricing FTL and LTL freight: lane analysis, market rates, fuel, and accessorials.
-
Strong negotiation instincts and the drive to cover hard freight under time pressure.
-
Familiarity with carrier compliance basics: insurance verification, operating authority, and FMCSA safety ratings.
-
Solid Excel and data fluency. Nice to have:
-
Experience across modes (FTL, OTR, local, LTL), and with Power Only, Drop Trailer, or dedicated OTR freight.
-
Marketplace or dedicated shorthaul brokerage experience. Benefits
-
Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
-
401(k) plan with company match.
-
Generous paid time off including vacation, sick time, and company holidays.
-
Employee assistance program and wellness resources.
-
Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
-
Collaborative, people-first culture focused on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Equal Opportunity Employer
