Job Description:

  • Performs high-quality CT and MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols to ensure diagnostic image quality and patient safety.

  • Reviews patient history and clinical information to confirm exam appropriateness and identify potential contraindications (e.g., implanted devices, metal, claustrophobia, contrast allergies).

  • Screens all patients, staff, and equipment for MRI safety compliance per facility policy and current safety standards, including completion of required screening documentation.

  • Follows department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time-out procedures prior to starting exams.

  • Positions patients accurately and comfortably using appropriate immobilization and coil placement techniques to ensure high-quality imaging.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Patient care and communication skills to deal with patients from infant, childhood, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

  • Must be able to use computer systems for data entry and retrieval.

  • Basic clerical skills, record keeping, documentation, transfer of images to disk or film, and excellent customer service skills.

  • Must be able to make independent judgments as needed to adequately coordinate workflow and staffing.

  • Very little of the work is repetitive in nature.

  • Mature judgment is needed to resolve immediate or urgent problems and deal with multiple priorities.

  • Must be able to apply policy and procedures in a reasonable fashion, as well as make decisions where procedures are not available.

  • Interpretation and development of policy is necessary.

  • Have frequent ongoing contacts with patients, families, physicians, and other departments. Voice must be pleasant in face-to-face and telephone conversations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of various diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of CT, X-ray, and MRI procedures/protocols.

  • Knowledge of CT, X-ray, and MRI scanners/equipment.

  • Ability to learn and grow with new technology.

  • CT, XR safety including radiation protection.

  • MR safety knowledge/screening.

  • Ability to learn and use Radiology software packages, including various PACS applications, CT/MR scanners, XR equipment, workstations, and EMR systems.

  • Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures.

  • Maintain all required registries and licenses to perform imaging procedures.

  • Ability to follow basic radiation safety concepts of time, shielding, and distance to keep exposure levels as low as reasonably achievable for patients and staff.

  • Ability to complete exams in an acceptable time frame to meet TAT goals.

  • Ability to assess, start, and confirm appropriate placement of IV’s for use in CT and MR studies.

  • The ability to assess, explain, and perform CT and MR studies on patients of all ages

Education:

  • Associate [Preferred]

  • Bachelor's [Preferred]

  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years CT/MR experience [Required]

  • CT/MR registry may be used as experience [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

  • Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (R.T.(MR)ARRT) [Required] OR

  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) [Required]

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT) [Preferred]
