Full job description
Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician provides information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses. Performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill that is commensurate with the individual’s training, experience, and technical abilities.
Primary Position Responsibilities

Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.

Adheres to the laboratory's Quality Control policies, documents all quality control activities, instruments and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.

Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.

Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Performs high complexity testing only under the onsite direct supervision of a general supervisor qualified under CLIA or a person designated by the director.
Qualifications
Minimum Education :
Required:
Associates Degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science with related training in a hospital laboratory setting or medical laboratory technician (MLT) from an accredited institution.
Preferred: None
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation) :
Required:
Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program.
Preferred: None
License, Registry or Certification :
Required:
ASCP or AMT registry eligible. (Defined as degree plus clinical laboratory experience)
Preferred:
ASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities :
Required:
Basic Microsoft Office, and LIS computer skills. Basic laboratory skills.
Good customer service skills and telephone etiquette
