Overview

Job Title: Machinist

Job Location: Williamsport, PA

Under limited supervision, sets up and operates all machine shop related machines, tools and equipment. Works from prints or sketches and performs all necessary operations using mathematics, machinery, hand tools and measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently follows all shop safety protocols and regulations.

  • Conceives and fabricates necessary tooling required for parts manufactured.

  • May perform raw stock order filling using horizontal and vertical band saws, abrasive cut-off machines, shears, and hand tools.

  • Competently and safely uses the hoists within the department.

  • Responsible for keeping cutting equipment operable by changing cut-off abrasive wheels, band saw blades, etc.

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of jibs and fixtures.

  • Responsible for reworking complete tube assemblies and other products.

  • Responsible for determining speeds and feeds as well as tooling and cutting characteristics for any and all materials.

  • Train other Production Machinists at or below job grade.

  • Maintain tolerances using dial indicators, micrometers, pin gauges and other measuring equipment.

  • Troubleshoot defective jobs using assembly prints and repair jigs when necessary.

  • Perform duties in accordance with Facilities Workmanship Standards and Aid Manual.

  • Sets up and operates CNC machines turning and milling centers.

  • Generates CAM programs and tool lists.

  • Communicate any known operation process irregularities to supervisor or other appropriate personnel.

  • Maintains work area and tools in a clean and orderly manner daily.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 4-6 years relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic math

  • Wire EDM or Sinker EDM preferred

  • Able to use all types of precision measuring equipment

  • Able to determine setups using knowledge of cutting characteristics of all materials in plant

  • Proficient in simple machine programming such as Proto-trac turning and milling
