*This position is for the newly established Instructional site in Elmira, NY in collaboration with SUNY Corning Community College.

The Lab Assistant for the Surgical Technology Program supports instructors and students in the lab environment by preparing materials, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring the lab runs efficiently and safely. This role plays a vital part in helping students gain hands-on skills by providing on-site instructional support.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for lab sessions.

  • Set up and break down lab stations after classes.

  • Assist faculty and students during lab exercises, simulations, and practical skill demonstrations.

  • Ensure the lab environment meets safety, cleanliness, and infection control standards.

  • Properly store instruments and equipment after use.

  • Support faculty in organizing lab-related documents, evaluations, and student checklists.

  • Ensure students follow lab rules, dress code, and safety protocols.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.

  • Credentialed in the field of Surgical Technology.

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in the operating room in the scrub role or as an instructor in Surgical Technology or a combination of both within the last 5 years.

  • Familiarity with surgical instruments, aseptic technique, and operating room protocols.

  • Basic organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift, move, and organize lab equipment and supplies.

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow safety and procedural protocols.

Additional Information:

  • Adjunct rate of pay for the 26/27 academic year is $50.72 / per hour. Classes will be assigned on an as needed basis dependent upon enrollment.

  • Adjuncts are eligible to participate in the NYS Teacher's Retirement System.
