Power & Construction Group, Inc. has an opening for a Journeyman Electrician with the Industrial Electric Division! This role will focus on installing and maintaining controls in electrical substations.

Salary Range: $30-$50/hr. plus prevailing wage opportunities

Location: Rochester, NY

Primary Function and Scope:

The Journeyman Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical control systems and associated equipment in medium-voltage substations and other commercial environments. This role will help design and implement complex, unique solutions with our customers. Safety, reliability, and adherence to industry best practices are paramount in this critical role.

Specific duties of this role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot substation control systems, including:

  • Protective relays

  • SCADA systems

  • RTUs (Remote Terminal Units)

  • Control panels and wiring

  • Meters and instrumentation

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and calibration of control equipment

  • Identify and diagnose malfunctions in control systems and components

  • Repair or replace faulty equipment and components

  • Complete detailed work orders and maintain accurate records

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and lock-out/tag-out procedures, as well as adhering to customer specific standards.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response

Requirements:

  • Adequate physical ability

  • Mechanical skills

  • Blueprint reading

  • Project layout skills

  • Conduit bending (both power and hand bending)

  • Conduit threading (both power and hand threading)

  • Experience in building services

  • Layout of underground services

  • Basic Computer Skills

The ideal candidate:

  • Has the ability to think ahead and plan within timelines and resources; plan and schedule work; set priorities and goals; participate in problem solving and adjust work as required.

  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Is a strong team player

  • Has the ability to manage a small crew, keeping everyone active and on task.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Any offer of employment is contingent upon passing a DOT Physical, drug screen, background check and driver’s license check, and candidates must maintain passing results throughout the term of employment with P&CG.

This is a non-management position.
