Brief Description of Duties:
The Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center (SEOC) is seeking a full-time Lecturer to provide instruction and academic support to adult learners pursuing their High School Equivalency (HSE) credential. The successful candidate will teach HSE courses, develop/update curriculum, monitor student progress, provide academic advising, and collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Instruction

Teach 3 High School Equivalency (HSE) courses each semester in one or more of the following subject areas:

English Language Arts
-
Mathematics
-
Science
-
Social Studies
-
Develop and deliver engaging instructions that meet the needs of adult learners.

Prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials.

Administer and utilize academic assessments to monitor student progress.

Maintain attendance, grades, and student records.
-
Provide academic support and refer students to tutoring and other support services as needed.
Student Advising
-
Meet regularly with assigned students to monitor academic progress and support goal completion.

Assist students in developing academic, career, and educational plan
-
Connect students with available SEOC resources and student support services.
-
Maintain accurate advising documentation.
Program Support
-
Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success.
-
Participate in department meetings, professional development, and program activities.

Assist with student recruitment, orientation, and retention efforts.
-
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
-
(2) years of teaching experience in an educational setting.
-
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Master's degree in Education, Adult Education, or a related field.
-
Experience teaching adult learners, High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), or related academic programs preferred.
-
New York State Teaching Certification.
-
Experience with educational assessments such as TABE or GED Ready.

Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
