Full job description

The Investigator position is responsible for conducting criminal investigations.

  • Interviews complainants, witnesses, victims, suspects, and informants in person and by telephone.
  • Obtain statements.
  • Plans court presentations with prosecuting attorney's, presents evidence and information.
  • Serves court papers and subpoenas.
  • Obtains and serves search, criminal and arrest warrants.
  • Develops intelligence resources for use in investigations and participates in undercover operations.
  • Reviews investigative information, writes and files case reports and supplements and compiles case files.
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies with investigations upon requests; provides information on criminal activity to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Transports inmates and witnesses to and from court proceedings.
  • Attends training session as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the District Attorney. The Investigator should possess a Four (4) year degree and at least five (5) years' experience in P.O.S.T certified employment.

Necessary Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

  • Ability to meet and maintain current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act. The Investigator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal and traffic laws, and department policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the criminal investigation methods, practices and equipment.

  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and court procedures.

  • Skill in the use of firearms, communications equipment, and other standard and specialized equipment.

  • Skill in the use of photographic and surveillance equipment, audio and video equipment, radios, and other emergency or communication equipment.

  • Skill in interview techniques.

  • Skill in processing, analyzing, and preserving evidence.

  • Skill in written and oral communication.

  • Knowledge of the cycle of violence related to domestic violence.
