Full job description

CiTi BOCES is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our student programs. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse learning needs, working closely with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.

  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts.

  • Support students with daily activities, including personal care and mobility assistance as needed.

  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and performance.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to develop and implement effective teaching strategies.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.

  • Assist with classroom management and organization.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.

  • Willingness to work toward Teacher Assistant Certification.

  • Experience working with children with special needs is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Basic knowledge of special education practices and principles.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
