The Center for Disability Services offers hope, innovation and achievement to the people we support. For 80 years, we have been one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals who have disabilities. Many of the innovative programs and vital services that we offer are not available elsewhere.
We are searching for Teaching Assistants to join our Prospect Center school in Queensbury, NY.
Responsibilities:
-
Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher- including direct instruction of students
-
May assume responsibility for class when teacher is absent/unavailable
-
Follows mobility, dining and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist and as noted on individual fact sheets
-
Assists with management needs of students, including performing duties related to activities of daily living, (toileting, diapering, washing, tooth brushing), dress/undress, put on/remove adaptive equipment, set up students’ learning environment

Carries out therapeutic goals within classroom activities as directed by and in conjunction with the therapist, includes systematic lifting and positioning of students and application and removal of equipment

Follows behavioral plans/intervention techniques for assigned students, as directed by teacher, school psychologist, and/or behavior support staff

Communicates student information accurately and in a timely fashion to supervisor and/or appropriate team members. May be directed to communicate with parents verbally or in writing

Participates in classroom dining program

Performs additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED required; college credits preferred.

Will be required to obtain their NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hire

Must be at least 18 years of age
-
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Compensation Range:
$20.00 - $23.60
