This position is responsible for conducting and maintaining a high quality, comprehensive K-12 educational program for seriously impaired children in a classroom and/or one-to-one setting. Position provides classroom and/or individual instruction, prepares Individualized Education Programs (IEP), group lessons, and curriculum. Position is also responsible for writing education progress reports and record keeping as required by the State of Michigan.

A ccepting Interim Teaching Certificates in Special Education, for individuals enrolled in and progressing through an approve Michigan teacher preparation program.

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.

All staff with start dates on/after 08/17/2026 will train at the Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital (SMPH) in Northville but, upon completion of training may work at the Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital (WRPH) until their position/classification officially moves from WRPH to SMPH at a date yet to be determined. Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in special education or a field of K-12 education.

Experience

No specific type or amount is required.

Possession of current Michigan teaching certificate (or equivalent) with a special education endorsement in autism, cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, learning disabilities, physical education for students with disabilities, physical or other health impairment, speech and language impairment, and/or visual impairment. OR currently enrolled in an approved Michigan Alternate Route Program. The physical location of this position is 30901 Palmer Rd Westland MI 48186. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
