Full job description

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment and fleet vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role supports a wide range of mechanical systems, including engines, electrical systems, drivetrains, braking systems, and hydraulics, and plays a critical role in maintaining equipment readiness across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and major repairs on heavy equipment, including loaders, dump trucks, sweepers, and similar equipment, across key systems:

  • Engine

  • Electrical

  • Drivetrain

  • Suspension

  • Braking systems

  • Hydraulics

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and safety

  • Provide maintenance support during snow events, including emergency and on-demand repairs

  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues

  • Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with heavy equipment experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools and perform independent repairs

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to pass airport badge/security screening process

  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, including experience with diesel diagnostic software

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work effectively in non-climate-controlled environments

  • Positive attitude with strong work ethic and adaptability in dynamic conditions
