Project Estimator – Electric Transmission Utility Job ID – 5726

Requirements:

    • B.S. degree in engineering.
  • 5 or more years of experience.

In This Role You Will:

    • The Project Estimator is responsible for executing the estimating process to support multiple project managers in the development and management of capital projects, billable engagements and maintenance activities by providing timely, accurate and competitive estimates. S/he is also responsible for updating and refining estimates, including analyzing project costs, developing and maintaining cost information, and supporting project managers in the development of budgets and quarterly forecasts. Additionally, responsibilities include the performance of strategic initiatives and process improvements efforts to support the company’s vision and mission.Use standardized tools and processes to prepare estimates of project costs.Identify and quantify project risks and associated contingency impact to project costs.Recognize and recommend designs/scope definitions which support accuracy, consistency, standardization and cost controls.Develop documentation of estimated project cost in support of the bidding process as well as project alternative analyses.Gather and maintain current market data necessary to accurately estimate: design, permitting, construction, material and costs associated with projects.Summarize and provide complete project estimate spreadsheets utilizing Microsoft Excel as well as company accounting software.Utilize and improve upon set utility industry concepts, practices, construction techniques, and procedures.Develop solid collaboration with engineering, planning and other support groups to ensure accurate estimates.Implement and update cost controls, analysis, forecasting and scheduling practices.Possess the ability to drive innovation of new processes while supporting the company standards for quality.Perform other duties as assigned.The description above reflects the most specific duties performed but does not exclude the occasional work assignments not mentioned.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field as well as a minimum of five (5) years of experience with electric transmission utility projects including estimating, development, scheduling, cost controls and construction. S/he shall have a working knowledge of estimating and/or project financial analysis practices, including an understanding of overhead costs and capital charges. The candidate will possess analytical, problem solving capabilities and will demonstrate high attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential, as are ability to work independently and be conscious of deadlines. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with PowerPlan and database development/management skills.
