Full job description

We're seeking a Quality Engineer to manage elements of the quality systems that keep our aircraft airworthy as we bring our next aircraft, the M3, from development into full scale deployment. Our FAA certified quality systems, manage design data control for hardware and software, hardware and software quality conformance, document control, supplier management, manufacturing process control, repair station quality control, nonconforming article control - containment, root cause, corrective, and preventive action, supplier and internal quality assessment/audits. Covering new product development through full scale deployment

In this role, your work will be responsible for:

  • The M3 Product Quality lead role starting from product development through its full scale deployment

  • Supplier quality - new supplier qualification, first article approval, incoming quality inspection management

  • Manufacturing quality - Dfx, PFMEA, in-process through finished goods inspection

  • Nonconformance process management using an 8D/DMAIC methodology from problem definition to preventive action

  • In-process through customer acceptance quality inspections and performance tracking

  • Quality Systems Compliance and Improvements

  • Internal quality systems auditing and continuous improvement

  • Periodic supplier quality performance assessments

  • Managing transfers of production lines to contract manufacturing partners

  • Quality and Reliability criteria, metrics, FAA/CAA requirements for new products from concept through final approvals to start customer shipments

  • Partnering with safety, engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory to close quality & conformance gaps supporting airworthiness.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in either aerospace, avionics, automotive, robotics or similar complex hardware with embedded software as a quality engineer

  • Experience as quality lead for a certified FAA, AS9100, or ISO9001 quality management system

  • Experience managing nonconformances and MRB using an 8D/DMAIC methodology with tracking & reporting

  • Experience in quality engineering for new product development from concept through NPI lifecycle phases including working with Dfx, process flow mapping for quality optimization, PFMEA, Human factors analysis, Safety assessment, fault tree analysis, mechanical tolerance issue investigations, electrical test criteria issue investigation, failure condition classification methods, likely failure test methods for hardware or software, software quality assurance methods

  • Transitioning product from development to contract manufacturing partners for volume production

  • Statistical data analysis e.g, process behavior charts, conditional failure probability, defect or failure rate analysis; Design of Experiments e.g, comparison tests for differences; utilizing database analysis & reporting tools e.g., Tableau

  • BS in Engineering or a related field

  • Experience using work related apps: JIRA, Confluence, Slack, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides or MS equivalents, Arena PLM configuration & change management or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • UAS/UAV or aviation experience

  • Supplier quality management experience

  • Familiarity with DO-178C Level D software assurance objectives

  • Experience in a FAA Production or Repair Station Certified environment

  • Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS)

Work Environment:

  • This is an in-person role based at Matternet Headquarters with access to our flight test facility

  • Compensation: The expected starting range for this role is $120,000–$135,000, based on San Francisco Bay Area market data. This range reflects the target starting pay for candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the role. Final compensation will depend on factors such as your experience, skills, level, location, and potential impact.
