Role Summary

The Senior Principal Solutions Architect is the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in governance for software engineering for Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role designs and implements innovative enterprise software engineering best practices, standards, and technology roadmaps and identifies governance for software engineering efforts, while solving technical, process, and governance issues.

Key Duties

  • Defines long-term strategy for software design, implementation, and documentation of associated technologies and products in use throughout the airline.

  • Designs and implements technology roadmaps, standards, methodologies, processes, and guidelines for software delivery.

  • Makes significant impactful decisions on solutions for product reviews and contribute to RFPs based on roadmaps/technical strategies, enterprise security standards and architectures.

  • Serves as a thought leader, influencing across the company and industry on optimum approaches to software delivery balancing innovation, security, compliance, and cost.

  • Drives and facilitates discussions with stakeholders on high-level guidance to maintain current technology standards and guidelines, recommend modifications as needed, and ensure new efforts fit within defined strategies and software delivery practices.

  • Drives adoption of methodologies and criteria for enterprise-level decisions to drive advancement and standardization in solution architecture outputs and delivery.

  • Acts as a trusted technology change agent through hands-on leadership encouraging and demonstrating continuous improvement in software delivery.

  • Mentors, coaches, and trains members of software/solution delivery teams, as well as other technologists across Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines.

  • Researches emerging technology trends thorough exploration, evaluation, and proof-of-concept efforts.

This Senior Principal Mobile Solutions Architect role is a unique opportunity to define the future of mobile at scale across Alaska’s digital guest experience. You’ll lead the vision and modernization of a complex, cross-domain mobile ecosystem spanning multiple business portfolios, architectural patterns, and customer experiences - driving consistency across platforms, improving speed to market, and elevating quality across iOS and Android. Partnering closely with senior leaders across engineering, product, marketing, and design, you’ll shape the roadmap, introduce AI-driven efficiencies, and help unify teams around a simpler, more scalable mobile architecture.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 10 years of software engineering and/or application architecture experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Deep knowledge of application and compute platforms/concepts such as cloud service offerings, containers and their orchestration, microservices, etc. as they relate to enterprise software delivery.

  • Adept at designing, developing, and delivering engaging user experiences for both business and technical audiences.

  • Clear and concise verbal, written, and presentation abilities with demonstrated experience in making effective presentations to different audiences.

  • Experience architecting, implementing, and reviewing large system implementations and producing audience appropriate visuals.

  • Skilled at creating policy and governance resources with respect to technology delivery.

  • Experience guiding proofs of concept with different technologies to arrive at optimum business solutions.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platform (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).

  • Established skills in leading and/or mentoring other technology professionals.

  • Working knowledge of one or more IT architecture standards such as COBIT, TOGAF, IT4IT, etc.

  • Familiarity with data privacy, compliance, and security principles/standards.

  • Demonstrated business acumen including RFP participation and product delivery.

  • Broad background in product delivery, technical architectures, application development, middleware, and database management.

Salary Range

$178,300-$276,350 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$217,526-331,147

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
