Full job description

We are seeking a Survey Technicians who has a thorough knowledge of survey layout and field operations. The individual in this position is well versed with field note creation and note taking. The Survey Technician possesses basic supervisory skills and a working knowledge of standard field procedures. The Survey Field Engineer is responsible for supervising and providing guidance to the Survey Rodman/Instrument-man. The Field Engineer has knowledge of the principles of the profession and various technical standards. The candidate must be able to work independently from tentative to final projects.

What you will be doing:

  • Extensive travel to various jobsites

  • Understand and provide guidance in the use of survey equipment, company survey standards, and tolerances

  • Relay company policies as they relate to field operations, field work flow procedures, and field problem solving techniques

  • Able to perform staking and stake marking for a variety of standard types of surveys

  • Create and update JHA's as they relate to each specific Survey task

  • Understand and be knowledgeable in AUI survey standards as they relate to survey task

  • Calibrate and culminate robotic total stations on a regular basis as defined by company standards

  • Perform a peg test on automatic and digital levels on a regular basis as defined by company standards

  • Perform field checks using a calculator, computer, and/or data collector to verify layout matches plan documents

  • Perform vertical traverse adjustments (level loops)

  • Perform horizontal and vertical offsets where necessary for layout

  • Interpret control point information and data sheets in plan documents

  • Set control points both horizontally and vertically based on department standards as well as locate points in the field

  • Create, reduce, and check orderly field notes for standard surveying operations such as but not limited to: leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, asbuilt surveys, boundary surveys, profile and cross section surveys

  • Take clear, concise, and informative notes and pictures of each survey task being performed

  • Communicate clearly to field operations crews, project managers, superintendents, and project engineers as issues or changes arise in layout as they are performed on a daily basis

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in construction surveying

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training

  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel etc.)

  • Experience in Solar Construction is a plus

  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience is a plus

  • Procore experience preferred

  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel

  • Able to travel extensively (Jobsite to Jobsite)

  • Team player with a great attitude, and can work collaboratively with other team members

  • Excellent Communication skills both verbal & written

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines

  • Familiar with general applications of survey CAD software

  • Know the principles and methods used in performing a variety of types of surveys such as: GPS surveys, total station surveys, cross section surveys, quantity surveys, boundary surveys, construction surveys, and as-built surveys

  • Knowledge of the care, cleaning, and use of a variety of surveying field tools and equipment
