Job Title: Weld/Finish Technician

Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Department: Tooling

Reports To: Tooling Supervisor

Position: Night Shift

Position Summary:

Processes forging dies through a defined repair and finishing process by means of welding (MIG, TIG, and SMAW), polishing, and fitting; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair forging dies by removing cracks, repairing surface defects, flood welding (MIG, TIG, SMAW), hand finishing, and polishing.

  • Maintains material integrity of die steel by following defined pre-heat, post-heat, and tempering cycles during die repair.

  • Hand polishing dies after CNC machining to achieve desired surface finish, while maintaining shapes/contours within the required specifications, using various pneumatic and electric hand tools.

  • Inspect finished tooling for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.

  • Setup, operate, and troubleshoot robotic MIG weld cells.

  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify forging dies.

  • Documents actions and verifies process adherence by completing process documentation .

  • Maintain sanctity of the workspace through the enforcement of 5s principals.

  • Maintains safe operations by following safety procedures and regulations.

  • Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements (PM), troubleshooting minor maintenance issues, and calling for repairs.

  • Accomplishes departmental goals by taking ownership of welding/polishing process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Welding.

  • Tool making and die maintenance.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Efficient management of time and resources.

  • Ability to perform all assigned tasks; ability to work independently or as part of a team; ability to complete work on schedule.

  • Follow Supervisors/Foreman direction while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers.

  • Ability to develop and execute a detailed daily plan based on priorities given.

  • Ability to read and comprehend basic English.

  • Abililty to follow instructions.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate’s degree in Welding Technology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Previous welding, fabricating, or tool and die experience preferred.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to sit/stand/walk 12 hrs. per day.

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in hot/cold environments.
