We are exploring the addition of a highly experienced Oncology Physician to serve as a part-time Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting a high-visibility federal healthcare program. In this role, you will provide strategic clinical guidance and domain expertise to inform program direction, while a dedicated project management team leads day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate brings deep oncology experience, preferably within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system, and can translate clinical insight into practical recommendations that shape program strategy, enhance care delivery models, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. This is a unique opportunity to contribute at a national level, advising on complex initiatives, identifying emerging trends, and ensuring clinical credibility across senior federal audiences, without the demands of full-time operational management.

  • Support cross-functional coordination across clinical, administrative, technical, and operational teams to ensure cohesive program execution

  • Provide clinical expertise that can be translated into actionable program strategy, workflow design, and implementation planning by the program team

  • Support identification and mitigation of program risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating as appropriate

  • Support the development of program documentation, briefing materials, and strategic communications for senior leadership audiences

  • Mentor and support junior project managers and workstream support staff

  • Assess emerging oncology trends, care delivery innovations, and opportunities to enhance program outcomes at scale

Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical doctorate required, with a specialty in oncology

  • Active or former VA clinical experience, direct working knowledge of VA healthcare systems and operations

  • 15+ years of experience managing complex healthcare projects

  • 8+ years of direct oncology experience

  • Experience leading complex multi-disciplinary clinical and administrative national-level initiatives

  • Experience in developing structured, innovative solutions and managing large teams while implementing the solutions

  • Experience in healthcare operations management and business development

  • Experience in strategic roadmap creation

  • Experience in revenue cycle management

  • Experience with program governance, risk management, and performance measurement frameworks

  • Proven ability to manage multiple requisitions simultaneously across funded hiring needs

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Preferred Qualification

  • Direct experience practicing or leading oncology programs within the VA healthcare system

  • Familiarity with the VHA organizational structure, VISN operations, and federal program management frameworks.
