Position Summary

Shenandoah High School is seeking a dedicated and energetic Assistant High School Track Coach for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the track and field program. This includes organizing practices, developing student-athletes' skills in specific events (such as sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, or throws), meet-day preparation, and fostering a positive, competitive, and safe team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in teaching fundamental track and field skills, training strategies, and proper techniques for various events.

  • Help organize and run daily practices, warm-ups, strength training, and conditioning routines.

  • Assist with pre-meet preparation, equipment management, event logistics, and on-field coaching during junior varsity and varsity track meets.

  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team travel to ensure their safety and well-being.

  • Promote academic excellence, good sportsmanship, and character development among all student-athletes.

  • Assist with inventory, uniform distribution/collection, tracking athlete times/marks, and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

  • Valid State of Iowa Coaching Authorization (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season).

  • Previous coaching and/or collegiate/high school playing/competing experience in track and field is highly preferred.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, coaching staff, and administration.
