Full job description

Overview

We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Integration to help design and build the core integration and API platforms that connect Brooklinen’s enterprise applications, data, and enterprise systems, with a focus on supporting robust, scalable Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) commerce at scale. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant architectural influence, focused on building robust, scalable, and secure software systems.

This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who enjoys solving complex distributed systems and integration problems, writing production-grade code, and shaping long-term platform architecture. This includes tackling the complexity of integrating core DTC platforms like Shopify and NetSuite (ERP), 3PL, etc..

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a senior technical contributor responsible for designing, building, and operating cloud-native integration services and APIs (both AWS and iPaaS). You will work closely with engineering, data, and enterprise teams to deliver API-first and event-driven architectures.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and operate cloud-native microservices on AWS, Heroku, and iPaaS (like Boomi) to support enterprise integrations and APIs.

  • Write high-quality, production-grade software in Java, Kotlin, and/or Python, applying proven software engineering patterns and best practices.

  • Architect and implement event-driven and asynchronous systems using messaging and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka or AWS-native equivalents).

  • Apply distributed systems and integration patterns (e.g., idempotency, retries, backpressure, eventual consistency) to build resilient services.

  • Design API-first services that expose well-defined domain capabilities for commerce, data, and enterprise consumers.

  • Design and implement reliable data pipelines to centralize commerce, ERP, and marketing data into our analytics warehouse (Snowflake) for reporting and business intelligence.

  • Deeply integrate core commerce and ERP platforms (Shopify and NetSuite) using custom services and Shopify Functions (e.g., Cart Transform API, Discounts) to maintain order and inventory data integrity.

  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to integrate and operationalize core customer engagement tools, such as Attentive and personalization engines (e.g., Dynamic Yield or replacements).

  • Design systems with strong emphasis on observability, fault tolerance, security, and operational excellence.

  • Participate in architecture and design reviews, influencing microservices and event-driven architecture standards.

  • Design and manage data persistence layers, selecting appropriate database technologies based on access patterns and scale.

  • Mentor junior engineers and elevate practices in system design, code quality, and reliability engineering.

  • Drive DevOps best practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automated testing within the Enterprise Integrations domain

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on integration and distributed systems.

  • Advanced proficiency in Object Oriented Programming languages like Java, Kotlin, and/or Python.

  • Strong experience designing and operating microservices-based architectures in production.

  • Deep hands-on experience with event-driven systems and asynchronous processing.

  • Strong experience with queuing and messaging systems (e.g., message queues, pub/sub, streaming).

  • Expertise in the Shopify ecosystem, including advanced API usage, webhooks, and the ability to integrate with or build Shopify Functions (e.g. Cart and Checkout validation).

  • Experience integrating and maintaining complex ERP/OMS systems (e.g., NetSuite, 3PL) and leveraging data warehouse technologies (Snowflake) for analytics.

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and building systems at scale, including AWS.

  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL database technologies, including schema design, data modeling, and performance optimization.

  • Solid understanding of software design patterns, integration patterns, and distributed data consistency models.

  • Experience designing and operating high-volume data export and ingestion workflows.

  • Proven experience delivering complex systems using Agile and modern SDLC practices.

  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kafka or equivalent streaming platforms.

  • Experience with AWS-native messaging and data services (e.g., SNS/SQS, EventBridge, streaming, object storage).

  • Experience building internal platforms or shared integration frameworks (e.g., managing custom applications deployed on Heroku).

  • Familiarity with data consistency, reconciliation, and recovery strategies across distributed systems.

  • Direct experience with high-volume DTC/eCommerce data sources, including PIMs (like Akeneo), Dynamic Yield, or SMS marketing platforms.

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer, or equivalent).

Compensation

Base salary range: $150,000–$190,000, plus equity.

We take a consistent approach to our salary bands to ensure internal equity, and expect to make offers within this range.

Final compensation is determined based on experience, skills, and market data.

Benefits & Perks

  • Up to 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee-only)

  • Fertility & family-building support (up to $20,000 lifetime)

  • 401(k) with a 4% company match

  • 16 weeks fully paid parental leave

  • 20 vacation days (25 after 5 years) plus year-round Summer Fridays

  • Hybrid work schedule with two core in-office days (Tues–Thurs)

  • Remote Thanksgiving week and remote last week of December

  • Up to four additional remote weeks per year with approval

  • 40% employee discount plus seasonal product allowance

  • One Medical, Talkspace, and $1,000 per year via Joon for wellness

  • One-month paid sabbatical at five years and an additional one-month paid sabbatical at 10 years
