Adjunct Faculty Positions in All Areas of Electrical and/or Computer Engineering

If you have prior academic or industrial experience, a passion for hands-on, project-based teaching, and would like to share your knowledge and wisdom with an enthusiastic group of students and indeed shape the next generation of our nation’s workforce, we want you in our classrooms and laboratories.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (http://www.rowan.edu/ece) (www.rowan.edu/ece) at Rowan University is growing, with the brand-new B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology and M.S. in Systems Engineering programs added to our flagship B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering. To support this robust growth, we seek energetic and innovative teacher-scholars as Adjunct Professors who are interested in sharing their knowledge and wisdom with our students and share our commitment to excellence in engineering education.

Our Adjunct Professors, who are typically active or retired academic or industry professionals, are an important part of the fabric of the Rowan ECE community, bringing their unique experiences and perspectives to our department. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching innovative, project-based courses primarily in the electrical and computer engineering and electrical engineering technology programs. These courses may be core or elective, depending on the applicant’s area of expertise. We welcome qualified and dedicated individuals with a background in all areas of ECE, including but not limited to:

Core topics

  • Digital and embedded systems,

  • Computer architecture,

  • Circuits, electronics, power electronics,

  • Programmable logic controllers, automation design

  • VLSI design, chip design, advanced chip manufacturing, solid-state systems

  • Control systems,

  • Signal and image processing,

  • Communication systems, including traditional, modern, and industrial communication systems

  • Electromagnetics and modern antenna systems

Electives

  • RF /microwave systems

  • Systems engineering

  • Power systems, renewable and alternative energy systems, and modern battery systems

  • Robotics

  • Machine learning / artificial intelligence

  • Cybersecurity, cyber-physical systems

  • Project management

  • Reliability and quality engineering

  • Your favorite emerging topic in any area that relates to ECE, EET, or Systems Engineering

As a department, we greatly value experiential and project-based learning, integrating emerging topics and technologies into the curriculum, and providing an outstanding, state-of-the-art array of equipment, instruments, rapid prototyping, fabrication and computational resources (https://engineering.rowan.edu/programs/electricalcomputer/about/facilities.html) to support such activities. Our dedication to project-based learning is reflected in both of our ECE (https://engineering.rowan.edu/\_docs/electricalcomputer/fall-2024-ece-curriculum-flow-chart.pdf) and EET (https://engineering.rowan.edu/\_docs/engineering-technology/2025-eet-flowchart-4year-program.pdf) curricula, as all our courses include lab/project components. As a result, we seek individuals who share this dedication, possess the skills and passion to develop innovative hands-on lab projects or other experiential learning activities using appropriate modern tools, and have the ability to integrate such projects/activities into the course content.

Applicants must have earned at least a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Individuals with industry and/or academic experience are particularly encouraged to apply. 10 years or more of relevant industry experience, along with a Bachelor's degree, may, in some cases, be used in lieu of the Master of Science degree requirement.

Effective communication skills, the capacity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary student and faculty teams, and the capability to teach in a project-based environment are essential. The position is part-time, non-tenure-track, with renewable contracts contingent upon performance (including student evaluations), departmental needs, and university and budgetary approvals. Note: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. The University will not sponsor a visa for this position.

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, and in accordance with the current MOA, Rowan University adjuncts are provided with a minimum of $2,225 per credit for all courses taught, with a maximum teaching load of 8 credits per semester and 12 credits in an academic year. Courses will be assigned to instructors by College & Department on an as-needed basis.
