The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to support the US Army Research and Technology Integration (RTI) Directorate’s Electronic Warfare (EW) research and development efforts by evaluating, measuring, and testing performance and compatibility of EW systems and support Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel in the analysis, integration, modification, and tactical application of deployed counter radio controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) systems, predominantly manpack solutions. Ideal candidate will play key role in advancing the Army’s legacy, modern, and future Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) capabilities at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate legacy, modern, and emerging RF communication technologies to develop techniques to counter effective use of said technology as a threat. Review reports to understand techniques, tactics, and procedures (TTPs) deployed by adversaries and EOD soldiers. Serve as subject matter expert in RF characterization of effectiveness of EOD ECM against threat devices.

  • Review technical information, intelligence reports, and industry advancements related to EOD operations, current and future threats, and RF/ECM systems to identify potential vulnerabilities and provide mitigation recommendations and strategies

  • Develop and test EW systems in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), over-the-air (OTA) Anechoic chamber, and OTA field test range environments.

  • Perform anechoic chamber and coaxial closed loop testing for Army Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) systems.

  • Support general anechoic chamber and coaxial testing for military ECM, communications, and other Radio Frequency (RF) systems.

  • Operate RF test equipment, setup test environment, and collect RF data in support of ECM performance and compatibility testing.

  • Support writing of test plans, test reports/results, and briefings on ECM performance and compatibility testing.

  • Attend field testing/field exercises for EOD and EWO personnel with informational briefings, field test demonstrations, and general onsite technical support for ECM

  • Support yearly Ravens Challenge interoperability exercise as EOD ECM subject matter expert by giving educational briefings and functioning as ECM SME during lanes training

  • Provide hands-on soldier engagement to include classroom briefings, live-fire demonstrations, and follow on support/access as a RCIED Subject Matter Expert (SME).

  • Direct engagement with EOD staff through briefings, one-on-one discussions, and email/phone communication.

  • Significant travel for soldier engagement and field test events. ~10-15 trips a year.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active TS/SCI.

  • 5 years experience as RF or EW Engineer.

  • Strong knowledge background of RF theory/technology

  • Experience in EW and RF testing.

  • Experience using hand-held and benchtop RF equipment including Vector Signal Generators, Arbitrary Waveform Generators, Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Signal Analyzers, Network Analyzers, and other equipment.

  • Perform standard RF measurements using the previous listed test equipment.

  • Ability to present material to an audience of soldiers.

  • Physical ability to present live-fire scenarios on a military range.

  • Being able to work well with a group of technical staff in potentially high-stress situations.

Desired:

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD

  • Experience testing military ECM systems.

  • Experience operating and testing military communication systems.

  • Experience testing cellular devices with live or simulated networks.

  • EW Testing in an RF anechoic chamber, coaxial closed loop, or outdoor range.

  • Working knowledge of EW tactics, techniques, and procedures.

This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately. However, this position is representative of positions within CACI that are consistently available. Individuals who apply may also be considered for other positions at CACI.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
