Full job description
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical service and electronic control systems in Parks and at City Facilities.
Department : Public Works, Bureau of Operations Posting Type : Announcement/Bid Salary : $30.74 per hour. Union : This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Union Bid Form : Not required. Your application for this position will serve as your union Bid Form. Civil Service Classification : Non-Competitive General Application Requirements : You must submit or show proof of all of the following at the time of filing your application (unless otherwise indicated below) or your application will be disqualified. Disqualifications based on any of these General Application Requirements are not subject to a Civil Service appeal.

WORK EXPERIENCE : The application must clearly show four ( 4 ) years of full-time experience as a residential, commercial, or industrial electrician. A City of Pittsburgh Electrical Contractor License is preferred (Registered Electrician). (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

EDUCATION/TRAINING : The application must clearly show a high school diploma or equivalent.

EQUIVALENCY : Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above) . The Total Qualifying Requirement is four ( 4 ) years. If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

Installs, repairs, maintains and modifies all lighting and power circuits, fixtures, controls, motors, pumps and equipment that is operated from all voltage levels (e.g., signal equipment, pumps, lighting, fire alarms, instrumentation, etc.).

Performs electrical inspections for preventive maintenance.

Determines type and size wire, conduits, fixtures, boxes, etc., and proper voltage and overload protection necessary.

Modifies existing circuits, fittings, etc., to accommodate new and modern fixtures, equipment and controls.

Lubricates and maintains electrical motors, switchgear and related equipment.

Maintains records and prepares accurate reports as requested or required.

May install and maintain solid state circuits to control remote pumps, transmit status and analog data, etc.

May drive a City vehicle.

Uses a variety of technological hardware (i.e., computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, GPS, cameras, etc.) and/or software (i.e., email, Cartegraph, Microsoft Office, etc.) to maintain records and prepare accurate reports on work performed.

Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.

Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.

May work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
