Job Description

The Engineer - Yield will participate in a nine-month rotational program within the Pricing, Strategy, and Costing departments under ArcBest Yield learning to 1) analyze supply chain solution opportunities to meet customer logistics needs while using and interpreting all relevant cost, market, and value-added information; 2) provide internal management consulting for ArcBest leaders that deepens understanding of profitability drivers; and, 3) provide analytical support for new and existing business opportunities while developing innovative tools and processes to advance strategic yield initiatives. Following the rotation, each Engineer will be placed with the hiring department that best matches their career interest and company need.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Sales and other departments to determine the optimal level of price and service for existing and potential accounts.

  • Understand various ArcBest business units/services and their respective pricing structure and objectives.

  • Determine cost projections and/or potential efficiency improvements on both new and existing business opportunities.

  • Develop, negotiate, and implement rate increases for ArcBest customers.

  • Represent the Pricing and Supply Chain team on customer conference calls and site visits.

  • Execute detailed instructions for pricing agreements while ensuring publication and loading accuracy.

  • Conduct business and financial analysis.

  • Assist with strategic and tactical planning.

  • Complete operational modeling, performance measurement, and market research.

  • Design and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Provide timely, accurate, and actionable data and analysis to decision makers at all levels.

  • Analyze and report on changes in yield and business profile.

  • Identify and evaluate profit and yield improvement opportunities.

  • Assist in the examination and efficiencies of existing and prospective business.

  • Define data requirements, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources.

  • Maintain a positive attitude while driving desired results.

  • Work in a team setting to accomplish corporate, departmental, and individual goals.

  • Improve quality, productivity, and effectiveness through the Quality Process.

  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field, such as Industrial Engineering or Mathematics. or

  • Other Engineering degrees and majors with a strong analytical background, such as Business Data Analytics, will be considered.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a programming language such as VBA, R, Python, or SQL, preferred

  • Sufficient knowledge of computer models, computer-generated reports and PC networking, preferred

Other Details

Work Hours:

  • Generally, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with irregular hours depending on workload.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal (0%-25%)

Compensation:

  • This is a salary position paid biweekly.
