Week in Review - May 27 2022

Hello everyone! This is BetaNYC, and we are pleased to launch a new outlet of Week in Review posts. Starting today, you’ll see weekly updates on current events and invite you to participate in various ways. As excited as we are for Memorial Day weekend, we want to acknowledge the horrific mass shootings these past couple of weeks in Buffalo, Laguna Woods and Uvalde. Our hearts are shattered and we send our prayers to the families, friends and loved ones of the precious souls lost. But as we all know, sending thoughts and prayers, then moving on will not end gun violence. We implore you to put your sorrow, pain and anger into action. You can donate to Everytown for Gun Safety, join the upcoming March for Our Lives rallies, or get involved with Sandy Hook Promise. If you have additional resources you would like to share, please reply to this post. Let’s continue to take action. We can do this — everyone has a right to life free from gun violence. On that note, we present to you our week-in-review. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and let’s take a moment to remember those who sacrificed their lives in service to this country. • Councilwoman Julie Won has been working on two monumental bills that would provide New Yorkers with access to public wifi in public spaces AND will ensure proper using testing by requiring the city to test any public apps with New Yorkers.
• The Civic Design 2022 call for proposals is open until this Wednesday June 1 at 11:59pm.
• Chris Whong recently created an app and is looking for feedback! The app lets you draw an area of interest on a map of the city and get a report of recent 311 activity.
