Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mechanical Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for technical operability of mine hoists that transport Transuranic Waste, personnel and material to and from the mining level. The successful candidate will have general aptitude of other engineering disciplines to help make determinations of the entire Hoisting System. They will interface and coordinate with different departments throughout WIPP to maintain equipment reliability, safety, and operability to facilitate the site mission. Ability to set goals and schedules and meet schedule commitments. Utilizes strong organizational and problem-solving skills and creative thinking to introduce and manage change to achieve continuous improvement. Establishes and maintains effective two-way communication to understand needs and concerns of Hoisting operations and maintenance. Maintains consistent communication with management on key issues, potential issues, and approach to resolutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with two (2) years of relevent experience is required.

  • Industrial controls (relay control and PLC), motor drives and/or hydraulic systems experience

  • Willingness to support maintenance and operations in field environment

  • Must have troubleshooting aptitude and experience in print reading

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Preferred Requirements

  • Mining Hoisting experience

  • Previous experience working for a DOE Nuclear Facility is desirable.

  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 30-31. Salary range: $82,382 to $133,850 per year --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
