Full job description

The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi BOCES) is looking for a full-time Educational Audiologist to serve students. The Educa tiona l Audiologists performs services related to diagnosing, managing, and trea ti ng hearing and balance problems in order to ensure that students have access to the educational environment. Other du ti es involve participation on multi-disciplinary teams and Commi tt ees for Special Education for individual students, providing evidence for needed services and HAT technology, monitoring personal hearing instruments, recommending, fitting and managing HAT devices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical activities characteris ti c of the class.

  • Develops, supervises, and performs student hearing screenings;

  • Establishes and/or coordinates appropriate referrals for further audiological, communica ti on, educa ti onal, psychosocial, medical assessment or referrals to other outside agencies;

  • Performs diagnos ti c hearing evalua ti ons on students;

  • Interprets audiological assessment results to school personnel and parents;

  • Analyzes classroom noise and acous ti cs to make recommenda ti ons for improving the listening environment;

  • Makes recommenda ti ons about the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, group/classroom amplification and assis ti ve listening devices;

  • Selects and fits personal FM equipment;

  • Ensures the proper fit and func ti oning of hearing aids, cochlear implants, group/classroom amplifica ti on and assis ti ve listening devices;

  • Fabricates, selects, and fits appropriate ear molds;

  • Serves as a member of the educa ti onal team in the evalua ti on, planning, and placement process, to make recommenda ti ons regarding placement, related service needs, communica ti on needs, and modification of classroom

environments for students with hearing impairments or other auditory problems;

  • Provides in-service training on hearing, hearing impairment, auditory disorders, amplification devices and their implica ti on to school personnel, students, and parents;

  • Counsels and guides students, parents, and teachers regarding hearing loss and resul ti ng needs;

  • Maintains and calibrates equipment;

  • Maintains records and prepares reports;

  • Provides educa ti onal programs for educa ti onal staff and the communit y.

Job Qualifications

Educa ti on, specialized background, training and experience.

Possession of a valid license and current registra ti on, issued by the NYS Educa ti on Department, in audiology or possession of a current public school teacher certificate, issued by the NYS Educa ti on Department, in the area of speech and hearing handicapped. This is a Civil Service Posi ti on within CiTi BOCES and candidates must meet Civil Service requirements.
