Russell Sage College is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach one section of CHM 111: General Chemistry Lecture and two sections of CHM 103L: Introduction to General Chemistry Labs during the Fall 2026 semester. The instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging lecture instruction and facilitating laboratory experiences that reinforce core chemical principles while promoting scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and laboratory safety. There is a possibility to extend the position to Spring 2027 to teach a section of CHM 103 Labs.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the success of students preparing for careers in healthcare and STEM by providing a strong foundation in chemical principles and laboratory skills. Course topics include atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, states of matter, solutions, thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, oxidation-reduction reactions, and an introduction to organic and biochemistry concepts. Laboratory instruction emphasizes safe laboratory practices, data collection and analysis, scientific communication, and the application of chemical concepts through hands-on experimentation.

Adjunct compensation is currently $1,000 per credit hour (depending on staffing needs and enrollment).

Job Requirements:

A graduate degree in chemistry with previous experience teaching college-level chemistry lectures and/or laboratories. Experience working with students in nursing, health sciences, or other STEM programs is desirable.
