Protected Time Dedicated to a Community Health Project Through a grant from the Orion Initiative, a grant program within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, [provider] is able to offer 20% protected time for three years for a physician to lead a community health project.

That means 20% of the physician’s time in this full-time position will be dedicated to a community health project, with the remaining 80% focused on clinical care. This is a unique opportunity for physicians who want to make an impact beyond the clinic walls while addressing a health need in the community.

A community health project is a project that:

  • Serves the community where the rural hospital or clinic is located or a community within its service area

  • Seeks to improve health or address a specific health condition or broader determinant of health, such as healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and control or environmental factors that negatively impact health

  • Does not involve political campaign activity, lobbying or partisan advocacy

We strongly encourage our physicians to be involved in medical education and research to continue building our strong foundation of patient care, research and education for years to come.
