Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Audit Manager to lead assurance engagements for nonprofit and government clients in Minnesota. This position offers the opportunity to guide teams, strengthen client partnerships, and deliver audit work that meets rigorous regulatory and exacting standards. The ideal candidate brings strong public accounting experience, sound judgment, and a hands-on leadership style that supports both engagement quality and staff development.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct audit engagements from initial planning through final delivery, ensuring each phase is completed efficiently and in accordance with exacting standards.

  • Supervise, coach, and develop audit staff, providing guidance that strengthens technical performance and supports long-term career growth.

  • Design engagement approaches that address financial reporting risks, internal control considerations, and compliance obligations for nonprofit and governmental organizations.

  • Oversee Single Audit procedures for entities receiving federal funding, including testing related to internal controls and regulatory compliance.

  • Evaluate and approve workpapers, financial statements, and client-facing reports to confirm accuracy, completeness, and adherence to applicable requirements.

  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and staffing needs to keep engagements on track while maintaining a high level of client service.

  • Build trusted relationships with client contacts, respond to concerns proactively, and promote a smooth, collaborative engagement experience.

  • Contribute to client planning activities by helping manage engagement scope, timelines, and financial expectations.

  • Identify client needs, operational issues, and improvement opportunities, then follow through with practical recommendations and next steps. Requirements • Active CPA license required.

  • At least 5 years of public accounting audit experience, including work with governmental and/or nonprofit entities.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, Government Auditing Standards, and Uniform Guidance.

  • Prior experience managing audit engagements and leading team members in a public accounting environment.

  • Proficiency with accounting and audit software, including tools such as QuickBooks, Thomson Reuters products, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality client service and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.

  • Interest in mentoring staff, supporting employee development, and participating in business development or community engagement activities.
