Full job description
Job Description: Perform manual labor and support operations and construction activities for a utility company in New York City. Assist with traffic control, excavation, pavement work, and underground tool operations while working alongside higher classified personnel. Job Responsibilities: -Perform traffic control and flagging functions. -Perform manual labor including digging, backfilling, and breaking and removing asphalt and concrete pavement. -Work with heavy pneumatic tools and provide physical assistance for setting up and operating underground tools. -Perform laboring functions in support of higher classified personnel, including squatting, walking, and lifting tools and materials greater than 80 lbs. -Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. -Obtain and maintain a valid CDL license if hired. Job Requirements: -Three years of similar or related work experience. -Plumbing experience preferred. -Must be mechanically inclined and capable of performing strenuous work. -Must demonstrate the mental ability and aptitude to progress to higher classifications. -High School Diploma or GED. -Must successfully complete a DOT Physical and Respirator Fit Level 1. -Must successfully complete pre assessment testing, regulatory safety training, traffic control and flagger training, Gas Fundamentals training, Abnormal Operating Condition Operator qualification training, Soft Tissue Injury Prevention training, and Helper specific training programs. -Valid Driver's License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy. -Must pass the Field Assessment Test. Salary: $23.15 per hour Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Companys testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
