Burrer and Sander

POSITION: MC Burrer/Sander PRIMARY FUNCTION:To remove undesirable material from finished or semi-finished products either by hand, electrically, mechanically, washing or tumbling; works under routine supervision. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:Power driven tools such as motors, drills, grinders, buffers, brushes and sanders. Hand tools such as files, burr knives, wire brushes, reamers, scrapers, hammers, chisels, punches, cutters, abrasive cloth, wrenches, pliers. Water, solutions, stones, or other abrasive materials. Buckets, pails, solvents, soaps. Air or vacuum systems. Brushes, rags. SOURCE OF SUPERVISION:Foreman WORKING PROCEDURE: 1. Reads and interprets instructions pertaining to proper procedure for cleaning and burring. 2. Moves parts to be cleaned within the cleaning area by hand, hoists or by mechanical means. 3. Loads parts into tumbling barrels or vibrators. 4. Determines from specifications, proper abrasives to use. Adds or changes abrasives or solutions as specified to obtain desired finishes. 5. Removes sharp edges on products to obtain desired finishes. 6. Removes foreign objects such as machine chips or burrs. Uses hand files, scrapers, burr knives, abrasive paper or belts. May use motorized drill presses, reams, grinders, buffers, disc sanders. 7. Removes loose objects by means of air or vacuum equipment, brushes, or rags. 8. Places cleaned products on containers or casters and removes them from cleaning area. My use hand or mechanical trucks, or cranes. 9. Uses care to prevent damage to machined surfaces. 10. Fulfills responsibility for dimensional and quality conformance of completed work to applicable specifications and quality standards. 11. Keeps work area in clean, safe and orderly condition excluding work generally performed by janitors. 12. Prepares work records and other allied paper work required to carry out primary function 13.
