Senior Software / FPGA Systems Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Software / FPGA Systems Engineer to provide systems engineering leadership for complex software, firmware, and FPGA-enabled space systems.

This individual will serve as a technical bridge between higher-level system requirements and the engineers designing and implementing software and FPGA solutions. The engineer will support requirements definition, interface development, architecture, integration, qualification, verification, and testing.

This is a systems engineering position rather than a pure software development role, although candidates should possess sufficient software and FPGA knowledge to work effectively with development teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering activities supporting software and FPGA-based solutions
• Translate system-level requirements into software and FPGA requirements
• Develop, decompose, allocate, and manage software-related requirements
• Define hardware/software and software/FPGA interface requirements
• Support software and FPGA architecture development
• Ensure traceability between system requirements and implementation-level requirements
• Coordinate software, FPGA, hardware, systems, and test engineering organizations
• Support software/FPGA integration and test
• Develop system-level verification strategies for software and FPGA requirements
• Support software qualification activities
• Define verification methods and acceptance criteria
• Identify and resolve software/system interface issues
• Support system I&T and SEIT activities
• Participate in technical reviews and design reviews, including development through CDR
• Support integration of software and FPGA elements into larger space-system architectures
• Evaluate technical risks related to software, FPGA, hardware/software interfaces, and system integration
• Support mission-critical and high-reliability system development

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline

• Strong systems engineering experience involving software, firmware, FPGA, or embedded systems

• Experience developing software or FPGA requirements

• Experience with requirements decomposition and traceability

• Experience with software/FPGA integration and test

• Understanding of hardware/software interfaces Knowledge of software verification, validation, and qualification activities

• Experience working across software, electrical, hardware, systems, and test engineering teams

• Understanding of systems engineering processes through CDR

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

• Active TS/SCI clearance required to start

• Aerospace, defense, satellite, or spacecraft software experience

• Experience with mission-critical or embedded real-time systems

• Experience integrating FPGA-based solutions with software and hardware

• Experience with system-level I&T

• Software qualification experience

• MBSE experience

• Experience with highly autonomous space systems

• Space hardware experience

• Previous technical leadership experience
