Full job description
Brief of the role
The PM job most of us trained for is disappearing. The one replacing it is a lot more fun. At AgVend, we rebuilt the factory from the ground up. Agents work across our entire software lifecycle, with humans accountable for every call, and we ship in weeks what used to take quarters. When agents do the building, what’s scarce is judgment: knowing which problem is worth solving, and being close enough to the customer to know you got it right. That judgment is the job. You will find the pain through customer conversations and data, design the solution, get it built, and make sure sales can sell it and success can support it. You own the outcome, not the backlog. This position reports to our head of Product. We’re headquartered in Austin, TX, and we’ll consider the best candidates wherever they live in the U.S. or Canada. Being in Austin, or willing to relocate, is a plus, and relocation support is available for the right candidate.
Your background
You have shipped products in a high-growth B2B software company and can point to the customer problem you solved and the business result it drove. You have built with agents at work, or you can’t stop tinkering with them on the weekend, and you expect humans and agents to work side by side on your team. You’d rather put a working prototype in front of a customer than write a spec about one. Experience in agriculture or agtech is a plus, not a requirement. Just come curious and empathetic.
Qualities we seek
-
BuilderYou’d rather ship a prototype than write a spec about one. No job is too small, and no idea too big.
-
Agent nativeYou use AI in your own work every day, and you look at every recurring task and ask whether a person, an agent, or a self-service system should own it.
-
Curious and empatheticYou’d rather sit at a farm table with a grower than read another persona doc. You keep asking why, even after you get an answer.
-
Hungry to learnAgriculture is foundational to society and still hasn’t seen the investment and innovation other industries take for granted. You want to understand it deeply.
-
SimplifierYou question everything you do and whether it moves the needle. If it’s taxing and low leverage, you get rid of it, automate it, or hand it off.
-
Team-orientedYou seek help when needed, are open to constructive feedback, and have never uttered the words, “Well, that isn’t my job” in a sentence.
-
HumbleYou recognize that arrogance is toxic and that modesty is key to being a good teammate.
What we expect of you
You do what you say you will do.
-
Find the painYou will spend real time with Partner Retailers, growers, and suppliers, and pair what you hear with what the data shows, to identify the problems worth solving.
-
Design the solution and get it builtYou will design solutions to that pain and make sure our technical product and engineering teams, human and agent, have what they need to steward the build and get it done on time.
-
Make it sellable and supportableA product isn’t done when it ships. You will make sure sales can sell it and success can support it, so partners actually get the value.
-
Write docs that scaleYou will write product documentation that serves people and agents alike: the pain we found, the solution we built, where it goes next, and how to use it.
-
Optimize for self-service and protect your timeWe will look to you to design products partners can adopt on their own, and to build the systems that keep you out of work that doesn’t need you.
What you can expect of us
We do what we say we will do.
-
People-firstWe seek to maximize your personal growth and long-term career success during your time with AgVend and beyond. We value our employees’ lives and aspirations outside of the company.
-
Ownership and autonomyYou will have the power to realize opportunities, drive change, and delight partners. Your scope grows as the company grows.
-
The frontierYou will do the new version of the PM job, on a team that has already rebuilt how it builds, pointed at the people who feed the world.
-
Clear expectationsPerformance goals are set quarterly and are rooted in our company values and objectives.
-
Competitive compensationWe know money isn’t everything, but you will be properly compensated for your work.
-
Company ownershipYou are fundamental to the success of AgVend, and thus, you will receive stock options from the company.
-
Health insuranceWe want you and your family happy and healthy, so we have industry-leading health coverage for all of our employees.
