Full job description
John Hancock Retirement is redefining our US Retirement business to help customers save for retirement. The team delivers digital experiences and retirement-platform capabilities that support customer journeys, servicing, and operational workflows. The Product Manager plays a key role in turning business strategy and customer needs into valuable software solutions.
The Product Manager owns the feature-level roadmap and product outcomes for an assigned set of digital experiences and retirement-platform capabilities within the strategic direction set by Product Domain Leads (PDLs) and Product Strategy. PDLs own the capability-level roadmap, informed by PM insights and recommendations. Working within a SAFe agile model, the PM translates strategy, vision, and OKRs into well-defined problems, prioritized feature recommendations, and measurable outcomes.
You will lead product discovery through subject matter experts, Customer Service, Sales, and other business partners; guide feature definition and delivery with engineering and design; and own success measures, launch readiness, and post-launch improvement. The role requires 5+ years of experience demonstrating strong product judgment, communication, and influence, along with demonstrated digital/software product-management and delivery skills.
Position Responsibilities:
-
Own feature discovery, planning, delivery, launch, adoption, and continuous improvement of assigned product capabilities and features.
-
Own the feature-level roadmap aligned with PDL-owned capability roadmaps; influence strategic direction of your product domain through insights and recommendations.
-
Lead discovery through SMEs, Customer Service, Sales, and business partners; translate feedback and research into problem statements, assumptions, and validation needs.
-
Partner with engineering, architecture, UX/design, analysts, and Product Owners to validate solutions, define features and acceptance criteria, and resolve delivery trade-offs.
-
Define success measures before development; establish baselines as data becomes available and use post-launch adoption and outcomes to guide improvements.
-
Recommend feature priorities based on needs, strategy, regulatory obligations, risk, dependencies, and capacity.
-
Engage Legal, Compliance, Risk, Security, Operations, and Marketing early to ensure the end product meets the business, security, and compliance needs.
-
Align and manage work with vendors and business partners on solution needs, integrations, delivery expectations, and operational readiness.
-
Build alignment on product direction through clear problem framing and evidence-based recommendations.
-
Communicate roadmap priorities, risks, decisions, trade-offs, and outcomes to business and technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant product management experience, with relevant retirement services and recordkeeping domain experience preferred.
-
Strong understanding of the software product lifecycle and agile delivery (SAFe preferred), including discovery, feature roadmaps, requirements, solution validation, launch, and iteration.
-
Demonstrated ability to translate customer and business needs into clear problem statements and features, build evidence-based prioritization recommendations, and define success measures.
-
Excellent interpersonal, motivational, influencing and relationship-building skills.
-
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including a developed ability to present to audiences of varying backgrounds and expertise.
-
Demonstrated ability to lead product work across engineering, design, Product Owners, and business partners, influencing decisions and resolving trade-offs without direct reporting authority.
-
Strategic thinking and ability to adapt plans based on competing product needs, dependencies, and uncertainty while maintaining the foundational commitments to product outcomes.
-
Ability to work under pressure to meet key deadlines.
