Wages
$24.00 - $26.00 per hour depending on qualifications and level of experience

This is a regular, full-time position that will be fully in-person. The role requires travel to sites within the southeast nine counties area and other locations as required by program activities. Some evenings and weekends will be required depending on community/program activities.
Job Summary
COPAL is hiring a Regional Health Promoter and Engagement Coordinator to play a vital role in advancing COPAL’s Southeast Initiative by supporting health and wellness efforts across the eleven counties of Southeast Minnesota. They will be responsible for managing local program activities, establishing and nurturing partnerships with community organizations and agencies, supporting community outreach and advocacy efforts, and actively engaging community members to encourage program participation and elevate community-identified health needs and priorities.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and facilitate workshops on health preventative topics, including nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and other health-related topics.
Participate in community events to promote access to health resources and advance community health priorities.
Develop and implement strategies to engage community members, increase program awareness, and drive participation.
Build relationships with communities through door knocking/home visiting at least once per month.
Maintain accurate records of interactions with community members, program progress, and any other indicator measured.
Gather community perspectives, stories, needs, and concerns through outreach, conversations, and listening sessions.
Coordinate key program activities, including health fairs, vaccination events, educational workshops, mental health programs, community discussions, community health campaigns, and other initiatives identified through community needs.
Manage project timelines, allocate resources, and oversee logistics to ensure programs are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Collaborate with the Health and Wellness (H&W) team in designing outreach strategies to engage target populations and improve program participation.
Support the development of annual and project-based work plans, including activities, timelines, responsibilities, deliverables, and intended outcomes.
Support coordination across COPAL departments when H&W initiatives intersect with organizing, communications, advocacy, environmental justice, workers' rights, or other organizational priorities.
Support in identifying implementation challenges, emerging community needs, and opportunities for program improvement.
Support community members to access health care services, health insurance, and community resources.
Conduct intake conversations with individuals seeking services in person, by phone, or virtually, prioritizing accessibility and choice.
Complete and maintain intake records and required documentation accurately, confidentially, and with respect for privacy.
Connect individuals with community partners, agencies, and programs, including housing, healthcare, food access, legal support, education, public benefits, mental health resources, and other services based on individual needs.
Deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based support that honors lived experience and self-determination.
Work alongside COPAL’s navigators and program staff to triage needs, support service navigation, and coordinate appropriate solutions.
Offer follow-up support to promote successful connections, continuity of care, and meaningful outcomes.
Identify recurring gaps or systemic barriers affecting community members and communicate trends to the H&W Director for programmatic or advocacy follow-up.
Build and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with local service providers, community-based organizations, public agencies, local businesses, health systems, coalitions, and other stakeholders relevant to the department.
Identify and recruit community leaders to be local alias in the community health promotion and join the Health Committee.
Collaborate with the Promotoras de Salud from Mankato and Minneapolis to facilitate training sessions that strengthen the knowledge, skills, and capacity of community leaders.
Support advocacy initiatives related to health access, health equity, social determinants of health, and other issues affecting COPAL communities.
Participate in coalition and partner advocacy efforts, including community education, public meetings, listening sessions, administrative or legislative engagement, and other advocacy activities as assigned.
Help translate community experiences and program data into information that can support policy recommendations, educational materials, advocacy messages, and organizational decision-making.
Provide administrative and clerical support for the Southeast Initiative Office as needed.
What You Bring
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus one to three years of experience in community work, health program coordination, health promotion, mental health services, or a similar role in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
Strong verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills in both Spanish and English.
Previous experience working with diverse populations with the ability to work with diverse communities in a respectful, culturally responsive, and competent manner.
Previous experience with group facilitation and community presentations.
An understanding of, or commitment to learning about, progressive theories of race, gender, class, and intersectionality, with the ability to apply these frameworks to support equitable and inclusive engagement across diverse communities.
Previous experience coordinating programs, events, outreach initiatives, or community-based projects is preferred.
Previous experience building relationships with community organizations, public agencies, healthcare providers, or other external partners is preferred.
Knowledge of Southeast MN community resources is a plus.
A demonstrated commitment to health equity and cultural humility and an understanding of the social determinants of health and health disparities.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to build trust with community members who may be experiencing difficult or high-stress circumstances.
The ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
The ability to support advocacy efforts while centering on the experiences, priorities, and voices of community members.
The ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
Competency in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when program or community activities require it.
The ability to travel to sites within the southeast nine counties area and other locations as required by program activities.
A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements.
