Ceramic Core Senior Engineer

Role Description

The Ceramic Core Engineer will serve as the technical authority for ceramic materials and manufacturing processes used to produce precision internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace investment castings.

Based on-site in Central Alabama this role will lead the development and optimization of a greenfield ceramic core manufacturing operation , from material formulation and forming through thermal processing, finishing, and strengthening.

The engineer will also drive process control, yield improvement, defect resolution, and continuous improvement to ensure a stable supply of high-quality cores to downstream wax and casting operations.

Reports to: Facility Engineering Manager/Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor production performance, ceramic core yield, equipment capability, dimensional capability, and process adherence.

  • Oversee ceramic slurry and batch preparation, including refractory powders and polymer binder systems.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize ceramic core injection/forming processes, including pressures, temperatures, and tooling parameters.

  • Develop and validate de-binding and high-temperature sintering cycles.

  • Lead root-cause investigations for defects such as core breakage, non-fill, flow lines, distortion, and dimensional variation.

  • Apply structured problem-solving methods such as DMAIC and Six Sigma.

  • Partner with raw material suppliers and manage laboratory testing, including microscopy, particle size analysis, and dilatometry.

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by evaluating core designs for manufacturability.

  • Establish and maintain SOPs, work instructions, visual standards, and rework procedures.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, equipment improvements, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in materials processing, preferably ceramics.

  • Experience with ceramic processing, injection molding, or investment casting is preferred.

  • Experience with SPC and data analysis tools such as Minitab or Excel.

  • Familiarity with laboratory testing, dimensional inspection, tooling, and GD&T.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and hands-on manufacturing skills.

  • Knowledge of refractory materials such as silica, alumina, and zircon and polymer binder systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with operators, suppliers, engineers, and leadership.

  • Interest in emerging ceramic technologies, automation, and advanced manufacturing.

Regulatory Requirement

  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) due to access to export-controlled technical data under ITAR regulations .???????Base salary: $150k-$200k plus bonus and exceptional benefit package and 401k match

Pay Details: $180,000.00 to $199,979.00 per year
