Full job description

General Description:

BeOne Medicines is seeking a highly analytical, intellectually curious, and entrepreneurial strategy professional to support the development and execution of strategic priorities across its global Research & Development organization.

Reporting to the VP of R&D Strategy & Operations, this individual will work closely with senior R&D leadership to address complex strategic questions, evaluate new opportunities, develop actionable recommendations, and advance high-priority initiatives across Research, Development, and emerging innovation platforms.

This role is ideal for a versatile problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity, moves comfortably between strategy and implementation, and translates complex scientific, operational, and business information into compelling executive-level insights.

Essential Functions of the Job:

R&D Strategy & Strategic Problem-Solving

  • Lead strategic analyses addressing R&D priorities, organizational capabilities, productivity, portfolio considerations, and emerging opportunities.

  • Structure ambiguous business questions, develop hypotheses, conduct targeted research and analysis, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.

  • Conduct industry benchmarking, competitive intelligence, market assessments, and evaluations of innovative R&D approaches and business models.

  • Support R&D strategic planning, long-term priorities, and initiatives to strengthen research and development capabilities.

Strategic Initiatives & Implementation

  • Independently manage strategic workstreams and special projects from problem definition through recommendation and early implementation.

  • Partner with Research, Development, Finance, BD, and other functions to gather insights, evaluate alternatives, and advance cross-functional priorities.

  • Support initiatives related to R&D innovation, new operating models, external partnerships, and the evolution of BeOne's development capabilities.

  • Translate strategic recommendations into practical implementation plans and support execution as needed.

Executive Decision Support & R&D Operations

  • Develop high-quality executive presentations, strategic narratives, briefing materials, and recommendations for senior R&D leadership.

  • Support R&D-wide strategic planning, goal setting, governance, and leadership decision-making processes.

  • Synthesize complex quantitative and qualitative information into clear implications, trade-offs, and recommended actions.

  • Support high-priority activities of the R&D head office, including leadership meetings and cross-functional coordination.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in biopharma, life sciences consulting, corporate strategy, business operations, or related fields; consulting and industry experience are equally valued.

  • Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, including familiarity with drug discovery, clinical development, and the broader R&D value chain.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently structure and solve ambiguous strategic questions, develop recommendations, and drive workstreams with limited supervision.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and synthesis capabilities.

  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, and storylining skills, with the ability to produce clear, decision-oriented materials.

  • Strong project management and organizational discipline, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive work to completion.

  • Intellectual curiosity, sound business judgment, resourcefulness, and comfort working across diverse scientific and business topics.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Proactive, entrepreneurial, detail-oriented; comfortable operating in dynamic environments

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

What Success Looks Like

  • R&D leadership receives timely, rigorous, and actionable insights on important strategic questions.

  • Ambiguous priorities become structured analyses, clear recommendations, and practical next steps.

  • Strategic initiatives advance efficiently through strong cross-functional collaboration and executive communication.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Might mentor other team members.

Education Required:

Preferably PhD with 3-4 years or master’s degree with 6 years of experience.

*Exceptions might be made for candidates with relevant experience

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
