What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you ready to make a direct impact on National Security by supporting the U.S. Nuclear Stockpile Stewardship mission? We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electromechanical Technologist to join our Building 809 & Tech Basis (022161) team.

In this role, you will support the Navy Systems Tech Basis team and building operations, contributing to the execution of design, development, and qualification activities associated with the U.S. Nuclear Stockpile. You will have the opportunity to perform a broad range of technical work in support of Navy Systems testing and operations, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, hazards, safety, and security-related tasks.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to mission-critical activities in a dynamic and highly accountable environment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform shipping and receiving activities for critical assets, equipment, and hardware that support mission operations.

  • Work closely with engineers and fellow technologists to define task objectives and execute those activities independently or as part of a collaborative team.

  • Perform hands-on assembly, troubleshooting, and testing on system-level mechanical and electronic hardware.

  • Conduct soldering and related bench-level technical work in support of hardware builds, test activities, and operational needs.

  • Carry out hardware management activities, helping ensure equipment and materials are organized, tracked, and available to support programmatic work.

  • Develop trusted working relationships with staff and technologist colleagues across the New Mexico Stockpile Systems Engineering community.

  • Support day-to-day technical and operational activities within Building 809 in a manner consistent with mission, safety, security, and quality expectations.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Some extended hours and travel may be required for this position.

If you are passionate about supporting important national security work, thrive in a team-oriented technical environment, and enjoy contributing to complex operations through hands-on execution, we encourage you to apply.

Salary Range:

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associate degree in STEM or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience including demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job

  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent to start with the ability to participate as requested in random polygraph testing

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Experience handling, shipping, receiving, and working with classified materials in classified or secure environments

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain required operational, safety, and security training and qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and technical skill development

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, as well as functional test equipment, at the component level

  • Experience installing accelerometers and other electronic instrumentation

  • Experience with electrical fabrication, including the ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics

  • IPC/EIA J-STD-001 solder certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification

  • Willingness and ability to obtain an SNL P-card.

  • Experienced CAS, current in all training

About Our Team:

Department 2216-1 Building 809 Operations and Navy Tech Basis Team is part of the New Mexico Stockpile Systems Engineering and Navy Systems Tech Basis (Group 2216) which plays a crucial role in Nuclear Weapon Stockpile Stewardship.

The Stockpile Tech Basis organization delivers agile solutions to the nuclear deterrent through our hardware lifecycle management team including full lifetime support for hardware needs for system level development and qualification activities from early identification of needs, provisioning, kitting, assembly of test assets, and final disposition of the hardware.

The 809OT provides support to building 809 and is responsible for managing operational safety, security, and quality in a 13,000 sq. ft. vault type room (VTR), which contains multiple high-bay and electrical laboratories.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
