Description

Location: Carmel, IN; Eagan, MN; or Little Rock, AR

As an Engineer II – Resource Utilization at MISO, you'll play an important role in supporting the generation interconnection process, helping new energy resources connect to the electric grid safely, reliably, and efficiently.

You'll conduct power system studies, evaluate proposed generation resources and HVDC facilities, and collaborate with interconnection customers, transmission owners, and internal teams to address technical challenges and move projects forward.

Beyond the technical work, you'll have opportunities to manage projects, improve processes, and take ownership of work that directly supports the evolving needs of the electric grid.

In One Year, You'll Know You're Successful If:

  • Lead critical power system studies: Independently manage and perform studies involving surplus interconnection, generator suspension, retirement, and replacement requests as well as merchant HVDC requests.

  • Support generation interconnection: Conduct affected system studies for generator interconnection requests within MISO and neighboring transmission systems, identifying potential impacts and recommending solutions.

  • Collaborate with industry partners: Review and evaluate projects proposed by Transmission Owners, providing technical recommendations that help influence project decisions.

  • Represent MISO: Actively contribute to internal and external committees, task forces, and working groups, sharing your technical knowledge and collaborating on industry challenges.

  • Solve complex problems: Apply sound engineering judgment to develop timely, effective solutions while ensuring alignment with applicable standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for our Engineer II – Resource Utilization opportunity, you'll need:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a qualifying engineering discipline (see qualifying degrees below).

  • At least two (2) years of experience in power system planning, power system operations, or a related field.

What Will Help You Stand Out

While not required, we'd be especially interested in candidates who bring:

  • Experience using power system analysis tools such as PSS/E, MUST, TARA, TSAT, or VSAT.

  • Previous experience in the electric utility or broader energy industry.

The appropriate engineering level will be determined based on the candidate's experience and technical knowledge.

Ready to Make an Impact?

At MISO, your work goes beyond engineering studies and technical analysis. You'll help support the reliable integration of new generation resources and contribute to an electric grid that millions of people depend on every day.

If you're ready to put your engineering skills to work on challenges that matter, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and help shape the future of energy at MISO!
