Structural Designer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a detail-oriented (entry level) Structural Designer to join our engineering team at an entry level. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of structural or mechanical drafting, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. This position involves working closely with the engineering, project management, and production teams to develop and update structural designs and technical drawings for industrial electrical buildings — Power Distribution Centers (PDCs) and E-Houses — and their structural components. The Structural Designer will be mentored by senior design and engineering staff and is expected to grow into ownership of the building structure on assigned projects. Responsibilities:

• Prepare, revise, and maintain 2D AutoCAD drawings for structural and mechanical applications.
• Assist with equipment layouts, structural steel details, fabrication drawings, and general arrangement drawings.
• Develop framing plans, skid base and floor details, member and connection details, and weld details under the direction of senior staff.
• Assist with base plate and anchor bolt layouts, lift lug details, and equipment weight and center-of-gravity calculations.
• Coordinate structural layouts with electrical equipment, cable tray, cable entries, HVAC, and floor and wall penetrations so conflicts are resolved on paper.

Skills and Requirements

• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.
• Structural or mechanical drafting background preferred.
• Entry-level candidates and recent graduates from technical drafting or design programs are encouraged to apply.
• Basic understanding of structural steel shapes, connections, and welding symbols.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
• Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Tekla, or Revit) is a plus.
• Exposure to structural analysis software (STAAD.Pro or RISA-3D).
• Familiarity with structural steel components and fabrication drawings.
