Job Description:
Assists physician in performing various cardiovascular/peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. Through subjective sampling and/or recording, creates an easily definable foundation of data from which a correct anatomic and physiologic
diagnosis may be established for each patient. Performs appropriate procedure and obtains a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.

Essential Functions

Locates historical information on patient. Updates and maintains patient files after procedures, properly labeling charts of patients with iodine allergies.

Performs regular cleaning of equipment, transducers, pressure injectors, and compressors.

Inspects all catheters and guide wire supplies for expiration dates, ordering and stocking supplies as needed.

Follows all radiation safety guidelines/procedures.
-
Demonstrates ability to schedules procedures appropriate for the lab, reviewing and recording pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data.
-
Using sterile technique, assists physician with catheter insertions and injections during diagnostic angiography and heart catheterization, as well as angioplasties, stent procedures, and pacemaker insertions. Uses knowledge of vascular and cardiovascular anatomy to move the table during filming to view appropriate anatomy.

Demonstrates ability to recognize dysrhythmias and EKG changes.

Understands pressure waveforms, and other hemodynamic data.
-
Communicates current assessments of the patient's condition, or unusual and/or potentially dangerous situations to physicians and other health team members as indicated.

Demonstrates ability to records procedure data accurately, calculating ejection fractions, and cardiac outputs.
-
Has operational knowledge of balloon pump.

Pulls sheaths.
-
Maintains hemodynamic and physiologic monitor which includes network computers, digital recorders, digital backup, bedside monitors, and PACS system.

Assists and stands-bye for cardioversions performed in the cath lab.
-
Basic knowledge of laboratory data, cardiovascular pharmacology, and x-ray concepts.
-
Assists in maintaining cath lab network computers including WITT and PACS.
-
Reviews procedures and applies appropriate charges.

Minimum Qualifications:
-
Associate's degree (A. A.) from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience

BLS required upon hire
-
ACLS required within 12 months of upon hire

Skills: LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
