Full job description

About Fresh

Fresh Consulting is a design-led software development and hardware engineering consultancy that takes products from napkin sketch to product launch. We work for clients ranging from startups to the Fortune 500, out of our Bellevue office and lab and our prototype shop in Issaquah. Current programs span Physical AI devices, robotics and automation, RF and FPGA-based sensing, and connected consumer products.

We're tech industry veterans who solve hard problems collaboratively and respectfully, and we put people first.

The role

We're hiring an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and grow Fresh's electrical engineering team, owning the discipline's people, technical standards, and delivery. On client programs, you'll review designs, set architecture, and guide the engineers who lead each project. You bring deep experience launching consumer electronics, plus the judgment to guide system-level power distribution and chassis wiring on larger builds.

  • Location: Bellevue, WA, in person with the team, our electronics lab, and our Issaquah prototype shop

  • Type: Full-time, exempt

  • Reports to: Managing Director, Hardware

  • Client Leadership / Team Leadership mix: 50/50

What you'll do

Leading and growing the team comes first. Your project time goes to reviewing designs, setting architecture, and guiding the engineers who lead each program.

  • Lead and grow the team. Hire, coach, and develop the electrical engineering team, from new engineers to senior leads. Own staffing, performance reviews, and career paths, and grow senior engineers into project leads.

  • Build the team's capability. Spot skill gaps, plan training, and decide when to hire, develop, or bring in contractors, including engineers in our Mexico office as that team grows.

  • Set the technical bar. Shape system architecture at program kickoff, run schematic and layout reviews, and consult project teams on hard trade-offs. Own our electrical engineering design standards and product development process.

  • Guide project leads. Coach the EEs who lead each program through architecture, design, bring-up, EVT, DVT, and PVT with contract manufacturers and ODMs. Keep DFM, DFT, sourcing, and FCC, UL, and CE compliance on track.

  • Guide system-level electrical work. On larger builds such as automation cells, robots, and computer systems, steer power distribution, grounding, and harnessing decisions with mechanical engineers.

  • Support business development. Scope and estimate EE work for proposals and RFP responses, join client pitches, and spot follow-on work on your programs.

  • Partner across disciplines. Work with the mechanical, embedded software, test automation, industrial design, and program management leads to deliver integrated products on schedule and budget.

What you bring

You've built and led electrical engineering teams that shipped products to production.

  • 2+ years managing electrical engineers with direct reports, including hiring, performance reviews, and growing engineers into project leads

  • 10+ years of electrical engineering in product development, with the design depth to review and architect others' work

  • At least two products guided from concept through EVT, DVT, and PVT into mass production with contract manufacturers or ODMs

  • Broad board-level expertise across analog and mixed-signal circuits, AC/DC and DC/DC power, and high-speed digital interfaces, deep enough to review designs and set architecture

  • Working fluency in Altium Designer (preferred) or a comparable ECAD tool for schematic and layout reviews

  • Experience leading products through FCC, UL, and CE certification and EMC testing

  • Working knowledge of system-level power distribution, grounding, cable harnesses, and chassis wiring

  • Client-facing judgment: you scope and estimate work, explain trade-offs plainly, and keep programs on schedule and budget

  • BS in electrical or equivalent experience

Nice to have

  • Experience at a product development consultancy, working across many clients and industries.

  • Scaled high volume product experience.

  • Compact consumer hardware: HDI, flex, and rigid-flex boards

  • Medical device development under IEC 60601-1, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971

  • Wireless integration (BLE, Wi-Fi, cellular, GNSS), including carrier or PTCRB certification

  • FPGA, RF, or edge AI compute module integration on custom boards

  • Industrial controls and panel wiring to UL 508A or NFPA 79

For a Washington-State-based role, the base salary hiring range for this position is $165,000 to $190,000. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Equal employment opportunity: All qualified persons will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, familial status, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability for which a reasonable accommodation can be made or any other status protected by law. Assistance will be gladly provided upon request for any applicant with sensory or non-sensory disabilities.
