Full job description

Investigate highly difficult or specialized electronic application and systems problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results. Create, manage, improve and apply electronic application and systems development processes including system specification, modelling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting, and tools such as Simulink, calibration tools, and PTC integrity. Obtain input and negotiate with product and software development teams and deliver control systems designs, verified and calibrated software features and builds to product teams. Use systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of electronic systems designs, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated builds and management of cross-BU integration and coordination. Specify electronic hardware and interconnections that measure and control systems in the Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems. Combine various parts or sub-systems into a whole to achieve the output most desired by the customer as part of Machine Integration and Optimization. Specify software features that interact with mechanical, hydraulic, chemical and electronic systems to deliver desired system states using knowledge of Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls. Apply Cummins’ installation requirements using our standard tools, processes and identified best practices to ensure optimization of performance, reliability, cost and quality. Analyze technical issues using proven problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques for rapid resolution. Solve product problem using a process that protects the customer, determine the assignable cause, implement data-based solutions, identify systemic root causes and recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Use Systems Requirements Engineering methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed. Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation. Track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle and analyze and assess the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources. Impact product design decisions through the utilization of Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis to predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements.

Positions require a Master’s degree Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive or Computer Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as an Electronics, Product, Safety, Calibration, Project or Systems Engineer, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive or Computer Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience as an Electronics, Product, Safety, Calibration, Project or Systems Engineer, or related position. Experience to include: Electronic application and systems development tools; Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R); Electronic systems designs, requirements, calibration; Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems; Machine Integration and Optimization; Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls; Installation requirements to ensure reliability; Identify systemic root causes; Systems Requirements Engineering; Requirements analysis; Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis.
