Overview
Working at Atlassian Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
About the Role Jira is in the midst of a reinvention, and this role is critical to that effort. This is an opportunity to shape our flagship product as it moves into our AI era. Working closely with senior ICs and design leaders, you will help define a cohesive, end-to-end vision for Jira’s AI transformation, connecting customer journeys to phased product innovation. You will lead a small but focused team, bringing them together around a high bar for craft and a shared direction. The work goes beyond adding AI to existing surfaces. You’ll guide interaction architecture and design patterns that simplify a powerful, customizable product without losing the depth enterprise teams need. You’ll help shape Jira’s agent experiences and human-in-the-loop decisions in close collaboration with Confluence and other teams across the the Teamwork Collection portfolio. As a member of our design leadership, you success depends on close collaboration with Confluence and other design teams to create coherent design frameworks and shared agentic patterns. The ideal candidate pairs exceptional visual and interaction interaction and visual design with the ability to navigate complex B2B workflows and make them feel simpler for the AI era. Why Now? Jira is at the beginning of a major transformation in how teams work with AI. The opportunity is to rethink the product as a whole: connect journeys that have been developed piecemeal, explore new interaction models and agentic ways of working, and map a compelling future vision to achievable phases. This role brings design leadership close to the product work at a pivotal moment. This role is for a design leader who can bring a team together around a bold vision for Jira, navigate the complexity of a mature B2B product, and make its next generation feel both powerful and intuitive.
Responsibilities
-
Set a cohesive end-to-end design vision for Jira’s reinvention, translating blue-sky thinking into phased innovation with product and engineering partners rather than relying on piecemeal iteration
-
Lead and develop a focused team of up to ten designers, including senior ICs, and align them around a shared vision and a high bar for visual and interaction design
-
Shape systems-level interaction architecture and customer journeys that simplify complex, customizable Jira workflows without sacrificing the needs of enterprise customers
-
Guide AI-native and agentic experiences in Jira, including the role of human judgment and oversight, in collaboration with Confluence and other portfolio teams
-
Partner with product, engineering, and design leaders to communicate the vision, prioritize opportunities, and ship compelling experiences
-
Raise design quality through hands-on critique, coaching, prototyping, and strong collaboration with senior ICs; encourage exploration beyond current product conventions
-
Connect Jira’s future direction with shared UX frameworks and design patterns across the broader Atlassian ecosystem
What You Bring
-
Experience leading and developing a focused design team and collaborating closely with senior ICs on ambitious product work
-
A portfolio showing exceptional visual and interaction design with evidence of turning complex workflows into coherent, usable experiences
-
Experience designing B2B software, tools, or other complex product ecosystems with varied customer needs and degrees of customization
-
Systems and journey-level thinking: ability to establish an end-to-end vision and translate it into practical phases of product innovation
-
Fluency in AI-native product opportunities and thoughtful human-in-the-loop interactions, paired with curiosity about how teams will work with agents
-
Ability to partner with product and engineering, communicate a compelling future direction, and uphold a high craft bar through ambiguity
What Would Set You Apart
-
Experience building collaborative tools or developer and productivity products, with a feel for workflows and interfaces that scale from simple to sophisticated use
-
Strong prototyping and interaction design skills, backed by a portfolio that demonstrates both systems thinking and visual polish
-
Experience shaping agentic or AI-native products and collaborating across product portfolios on shared design principles
-
Evidence of pursuing new product possibilities informed by the competitive landscape, not just incremental improvements
Must Have
-
10+ years in design leadership
-
Experience shipping complex product work
