Staff Specialist, Segment Marketing (Human Genomics)

OPPORTUNITY

PacBio is advancing highly accurate long-read whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to address the needs of genetic testing laboratories, academic medical centers, and large-scale genome sequencing centers. Our technology offers new genomic insights while enabling the throughput and economics required for broader adoption. We are seeking an experienced segment marketing specialist to drive adoption of PacBio technology among leading organizations in human genomics. This role will focus on strategic customers, compelling scientific and commercial messaging, and advancing high-value opportunities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Staff Specialist, Segment Marketing for Human Genomics, you will lead marketing activities for genetic testing laboratories, academic medical centers, and large-scale human genome sequencing programs.

You will work closely with Sales, Product Management, Applications, and R&D to understand the needs of strategically important customers, develop targeted messaging and sales tools, and support commercial opportunities.

You will also lead segment activities at key scientific conferences and build relationships with influential researchers and laboratory leaders.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring scientific expertise, commercial judgment, and a hands-on approach to marketing. Success will be measured by your contribution to advancing customer opportunities and driving adoption of PacBio technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Segment strategy and positioning: Develop targeted marketing strategies for human genomics customers. Define customer needs, value propositions, competitive positioning, and commercial priorities.
  • Scientific messaging and sales enablement: Translate scientific evidence and technical capabilities into compelling customer value propositions. Develop presentations, application briefs, competitive comparisons, and other sales tools. Train commercial teams as needed.
  • Conference strategy and execution: Lead marketing activities at key conferences, including ASHG, ACMG, and AMP. Coordinate customer engagement, scientific content, and events that support commercial priorities.
  • Strategic account engagement: Partner with Sales to understand customer workflows, buying criteria, and barriers to adoption. Develop account-specific messaging and engagement strategies that advance commercial opportunities.
  • Scientific relationships and customer evidence: Build relationships with influential researchers and laboratory leaders. Support customer evaluations and collaborations, translating results into scientific evidence, case studies, and marketing materials.
  • Market intelligence and marketing execution: Monitor customer needs, market trends, and competing technologies. Work across teams to execute targeted marketing initiatives and prioritize activities that contribute to commercial success.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience in genomics, genetic testing, life sciences marketing, technical sales, or a related scientific or commercial role.
  • Strong understanding of whole-genome sequencing, genomic variant detection, and sequencing workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop compelling scientific and commercial communications, including presentations, technical content, or sales enablement materials.
  • Experience engaging customers, understanding their needs, and translating technical capabilities into compelling value propositions.
  • Familiarity with the competitive landscape for genomic sequencing, including technologies, laboratory workflows, and sequencing economics.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate across scientific, technical, and commercial teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, conferences, and commercial activities.

Preferred

  • Experience working with genetic testing laboratories, academic medical centers, or large-scale genome sequencing programs.
  • Experience with long-read sequencing, particularly PacBio HiFi sequencing and its applications in human genomics.
  • Experience engaging scientific thought leaders, laboratory directors, and principal investigators.
  • Familiarity with ASHG, ACMG, AMP, and related scientific communities.

Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States without the need for present or future sponsorship.
