Job Title: Engineering Technician Environmental Construction Oversight
Job Description
The Engineering Technician will serve as the on-site representative for an environmental consulting team during construction, providing construction quality assurance for vapor intrusion mitigation and related environmental remediation work. This role focuses on overseeing the installation of vapor barriers and sub-slab vapor mitigation systems, monitoring contractor workmanship against drawings and specifications, and ensuring that all field activities are accurately documented and communicated to the engineering team.
Responsibilities

Serve as the primary boots-on-the-ground representative during construction for environmental remediation and vapor intrusion mitigation projects.

Observe all on-site construction activities related to vapor barrier and vapor membrane installation.

Oversee installation of sub-slab vapor mitigation systems, including both passive and active sub-slab venting and depressurization systems.

Monitor installation of vapor collection piping and ensure proper routing, connections, and terminations in accordance with project drawings and specifications.

Verify correct installation and sealing of penetrations and details, including foundations, utilities, and slab penetrations.

Review and interpret project specifications and drawings, then observe contractor work to identify any nonconformance or deviations.

Evaluate contractor workmanship against approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

Document nonconformances and deficiencies clearly and thoroughly, and track them through punch lists and deficiency logs until resolution.

Prepare detailed daily field reports, including written observations, quantities, photos, and as-built documentation.

Maintain accurate as-built records of installed systems, including locations, materials, and any field modifications.

Communicate field conditions, issues, and progress directly with the site superintendent, foreman, engineers, and client representatives as needed.

Collaborate with the project team to solve field issues and support timely, practical resolutions to construction challenges.

Keep the engineer informed of all progress, field decisions, and daily activities through consistent reporting and communication.

Support construction quality assurance (CQA) for environmental remediation and vapor intrusion system installations on both small and large projects.

Contribute to safe work practices on site by following applicable health and safety procedures and standards.
Essential Skills

Approximately 45 years of experience in environmental remediation construction oversight, with a focus on construction quality assurance (CQA).

Hands-on experience serving as an on-site representative for an environmental consultant during construction activities.

Demonstrated experience overseeing vapor barrier and vapor membrane installation.
-
Experience with sub-slab vapor mitigation systems, including passive and active sub-slab venting and depressurization.
-
Experience overseeing installation of vapor collection piping and related components.
-
Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
-
Ability to assess contractor workmanship against drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
-
Strong skills in identifying nonconformance in the field and documenting issues clearly and accurately.
-
Experience preparing daily field reports, including narrative descriptions, quantities, photos, and as-built documentation.
-
Ability to maintain and manage punch lists and deficiency tracking through to resolution.
-
Effective communication skills for direct coordination with superintendents, foremen, engineers, and client representatives on site.

Ability to observe all on-site activities and provide consistent, detailed updates to the engineering team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
-
Experience in environmental engineering, environmental technology, or a closely related discipline.
-
Experience in environmental construction quality assurance (Environmental CQA).
-
Experience with vapor intrusion system installation CQA on both small and large-scale projects.
-
40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
-
10-hour or 30-hour OSHA construction safety training preferred.
-
Construction earthwork experience is a plus.
-
Experience with environmental remediation projects is a plus.

Familiarity with vapor intrusion projects involving VOCs, methane, hydrogen sulfide, or radon is beneficial.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to support practical field solutions under time constraints.

Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and thorough documentation.
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based at active construction sites, where the Engineering Technician will observe and oversee installation of vapor barriers, sub-slab depressurization systems, sub-slab venting systems, and related environmental remediation components. The work environment involves close coordination with construction teams, including superintendents, foremen, and engineers, and requires regular review of drawings, specifications, and field conditions. You will spend significant time outdoors and in partially completed structures, working around heavy equipment, utilities, and building foundations. Standard construction site safety practices and personal protective equipment apply. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a well-established vapor intrusion practice that has supported hundreds of projects across industrial, commercial, military, educational, and public facilities, providing exposure to a wide range of contaminants and mitigation technologies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kennesaw, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
